Sox still up 2 on the A's for the 2d wild card. So all you naysayers--and you know who you are and I'm not afraid to name names (like Maxbialystock)--need to admit you don't know squat about this team this year.

 

A pretty big win, all things considered.

 

As much as I enjoy giving credit to Vazquez for those big hits and rbi's, my biggest praise has to go to Chris Sale for pitching 6 big innings and giving up 2 runs, 1 of which was thanks to the Sox offensive defense. This was a gritty performance on a night when he didn't have his best stuff, when the defense was not so hot, and when the umpire was hostile (albeit unintentionally so). And he did it against the best team in the AL on their home field

The Rays tonight didn't do what they do best; timely hitting. Timely hitting may not be sustainable, but the Rays have had much more of it than any other team in MLB.

 

Ahem. I have always believe good pitching beats good hitting. Tonight the Sox went with their three best pitchers--Sale, Whitlock, and Ottavino. The Rays always go with good pitching, but tonight Vazquez and Duran came through for 3 badly needed rbi's.

Well, Sale finally faced a good team, so that is off his back.

 

It's a short sample size, but he's averaging 5 and a third with an ERA of 2.53.

 

Tonight showed Sale's grit. He was not at his best, and he was facing the best run-scoring team in MLB.

 

Thank God the Red Sox have...

Tomorrow is ERod's biggest game of the year.

This goes without saying. E Rod needs to have the game of his life.

 

His last 4 out of 5 starts have been very good. He is really turning it around let’s hope it continues tomorrow. We can split this series and that would be huge. Season series after tomorrow could be 7-9 against Tampa. Amazing what two straight wins over a divison rival can do for the confidence. Let’s find out tomorrow.

Really happy for the guys tonight .Tons of key players out with the vid .Vaz steps up finally and Duran both get game balls along with Sale and Kyle who toughed it out with not his best stuff.I love eating my words when they do well and isn’t it funny how the player I really was getting down on in Vaz had a nice game .Team could have blown it open a couple times and stranded multiple men on the pond ....I’d really like to see JD stop chasing junk and primarily Sliders .Duran made a nice play tonight and Kyle to me is a must going forward at DH .Overall Cora showed huge balls also and pulled the right strings.Team beat an outstanding Tampa Club tonight and I’m happy for all involved .Lets build on this now with Erod and even this series up .Sweet Caroline Edited September 2, 2021 by Swiharts Ghost

2 runs in 6 innings vs. the highest scoring offense in MLB, I think we'll take it. He hasn't had a bad start yet in 4 times out.

His location was not great. The ump wasn't helping him out. His slider just wasn't working for him all that well. He got out of a few jams with some double plays. It was the worst he's looked so far. Rays were very patient against him.

Maybe he was trying conserve pitches, so he could go deeper in the game.
