No dishonor in that at bat by Devers. Cole was at his best, and the only hittable pitch was the knuckle curve, the only one he threw. Cole has now thrown 70 pitches in 3 innings.

Valdez has thrown 31 in 2. If he can throw two more good innings, he will have done a great job. But the WEEI guys say he has never thrown more than 3.1 innings.

I don't agree. I am no expert, but it seems to me Houck the 6th starter now is the 5th starter, plus Sale should be here before long. Would I rather have ERod than Garrett Richards in the rotation? Absolutely. But Garrett did OK until he got to the 6th and the 3d time thru the Jays order.

It's still not written in stone what the SOX will get from Sale this season. And if you're comfortable having Houck as a starter with only two good pitches, then fine, let's roll the dice. Personally, I think Bloom should trade for a starter, hopefully one with an ERA under 5.

I counted four pitches last night. 4 seam fastball, sinker fastball, slider (his best pitch), and splitter.

I wish I could go back and quote myself when I said it was stupid that Valdez wasn’t in the bullpen. Man he’s been spectacular tonight

Word on E-rod, he left game with a migraine. Nothing mentioned about his back.

Reminds me of a game Clemens was pitching against the A's in the PO's. Early in the game Clemens was getting hit hard, so after one of his following pitches he started screaming at the ump, knowing he would get tossed and he was.

As for Sale, sure, nothing is written in stone. See ERod tonight. Or Richards trying to pitch without using glue on the ball. That said, Sale has a great track record and so far has had a great recovery from Tommy John.
