Speaking of rubber tree plants, did I just see Chavis go down swinging (again)? When the Sox get a dinger and the opposing pitcher gets down on himself , Chavis is the salve that heals.

We don't have an ace, and yet we win. That should be evidence enough, but I can give you a few examples where we lit up opposing aces or top closers.

This team's offense seems to do worse vs newbies, struggling pitchers or journeymen.

So you're the one I stole that "do worse vs newbies" from. Thanks. I love it.

But I'm still waiting for evidence that good hitting beats good pitching.

Even with Erods 2 out, 2 strike oppo field HR allowed by a LH hitter, this game remained winnable, and technically with 5 outs to score 3 runs to tie, it still is. Sitting your best hitters for a rest day followed by a day off is a concession that wasn't needed. They should have made it a Bullpen game if they were sure to lose to Wheeler. It isn't quite over, although it feels that way

Cordero just hit the hardest HR this year. 118mph. Speaking of 'blind squirrels.'

Yup. But no way we're giving it back. Why the heck are we pinch-hitting for Santana?

Chavis and Dalbec show a similar deficiency that Red Sox pitching development has over the past 15 years. Neither one is a professional hitter, just a big swinger with numerous vulnerable holes. I don't know if another year in AAA would have helped either one but they are quickly putting themselves in the dustbin of Sox position player prospects who came close but no cigar, and little trade value.

This and more underhand tossed questions will be asked after the game. Congrats to Cordero; that was one pissed-off squirrel.

Sorry, but it's a simple fact this year that ERod stinks. His ERA is over 5, and Wheeler's (2.32) is less than half that, plus he usually goes 7 innings, which minimizes the pressure on the bullpen.

Last night the Sox scored just 4 runs in a close game and 2 of them came off a rookie starter who lasted 3 innings.

So please don't tell me that today JDM and Bogie were going to send Wheeler to the showers early or even get a single off him.

We will see good pitching going foward. They will eventually have to hit good pitching. This division is very tight right now. They gotta win games or win series.

I guess we'll never find out. I am assuming that Devers will be rested Tuesday after Monday's day off.

Now 5-1 because the bullpen, who (Sawamura, Andriese, Valdez) held the the Phillies scoreless for 3.1 innings, finally gave up a run on a sac fly. Whoops, make that 6-1.

So I really have to ask again. Were Bogie and JDM really going to help the Sox score 7 runs today? How about 6 to tie?

With a day off tomorrow I also don't agree to sit out your 2 best hitter

Agreed. Why stop any momentum? I think we will see a lot more of this with cora if they keep winning the first two games of a series.

I'm not an Erod fan because I think he is inconsistent like a #4/5 pitcher, ands he loses his concentration and will to win too easily. But had the flyball to left been catchable at the wall ending the inning with one run instead of 4 total, Would everyone be ragging on his start ?

A 1-0 game vs Wheeler would have looked a lot different and yes, I would figure Bogaerts and JDM combined to get at least one hit off him. Franchy hit the hardest ball of the year off Wheeler

I get it, Max. In your mind Cora can do no wrong. He does appear god-like to many SOX fans.

Your missing the whole point. When wheeler saw this lineup he didn't have to pitch around anyone except for Devers. When you have JD and Bogey in there it makes the opposing pitcher less comfortable and then he really has to be careful around the lineup. Changes his whole approach

Yup Tampa is officially tied for first after today

Sox pull off a fantastic trick play to get the 3d out!!!! Vazquez astutely let that ball get to the backstop knowing it would bounce right back to him in time to trap the guy coming home.

If only Cora had had the wisdom--heck, let's call it what it is, the guts--to play Bogie and JDM today, the Sox would be leading 7-6 or maybe even 9 to 6.

I sure hope Bloom and Henry are watching this game today because, frankly, I've had it with softy Cora. This team has absolutely no discipline and no hunger to win games no matter what.

Hey, Max, if Cora tells you to drink the punch, please don't.

The Phillies haven't pitched around anyone in this series--except for Eovaldi last night, whom they walked and who later scored.

And Wheeler doesn't need to pitch around anyone, or didn't you watch today's game?
