My take on the SOX at this point is that the offense will come around(too many proven hitters), the starting pitching has been, for the most part, good(imho, better than expected) although I'd like to see more 6 innings starts. The defense is good enough. The major concern from my perspective is the BP. Getting from the 6th inning to Barnes has been tough,

however I believe that more 6 inning starts would improve the BP.

IOW, with 124 games remaining I still see this team as PO competitive.

I hope you’re right! We need this win tonight. Yanks and Jays right behind us..... we need some kind of momentum going forward. Being swept is never pleasant for the mental self esteem

Tough row to hoe tonight. A's love the road, and the Sox are losers at Fenway. Manaea looks like another good A's starter, and the Sox have scored 4 runs in the last 3 games. Richards' ERA at Fenway is 13.50. And, even if he pitches well, the bridge from him to Barnes is like the Bridge over San Luis Rey.

Interesting Sox lineup with Chavis at 2B leading off, Bogey 4th at DH, JDM 3d in LF, the great Bobby D at 1b batting in the coveted 8th spot, and Arauz at SS.

Whatever Renfroe does at bat, it's still nice to have that arm in RF.

I will watch this game intently.

Switching it up a little tonight. Making pizza, which I usually do on Fridays. We are 2-0 on Fridays that I make pizza. Coincidence???

JD in LF, tonight.

Speaking of JD, MLBTR reports...

J.D. Martinez, OF/DH, Red Sox ($19.375MM player option for 2022): An ugly 2020 season had many wondering whether Martinez was beginning to decline. It seems safe to stop wondering. The first few weeks of the 2021 season have been some of the finest of JDM’s career; offense around the league is down, but he apparently didn’t get the memo, as he’s destroyed opposing pitchers at a .331/.416/.632 clip. His 10 dingers give him a share of the MLB lead. While there were some conflicting reports on the number of opt-outs in his contract at the time of the deal, MLBTR confirmed this week that Martinez has a $19.375MM player option for the 2022 season on his deal, so he’s controlling his own fate, so to speak. If he keeps hitting like this, why wouldn’t he test the market again (or at least parlay his performance into an extension in Boston)?
