The rain is cloaking Richard's pitches apparently. Cora is going to have to check the weather forecasts for opportune starts for him.

This actually is a Porcello-like start. Give up a bunch of runs early and then settle down. Porcello also benefited from a lot of runs by the SOX when he started. Hopefully, the SOX can extend Richards the same courtesy.

Guess we will see how the rest of the game goes. He gave up 10 in his first start. And looks god awful with zero control tonight with the exception of this inning. But if he can deliver us a couple more shut out innings, I’ll give him a break.

Given Richard's appears to be something of a cracked dome player on top of his other attributes, if the first batter of the top of the 3rd inning didn't bail him out there is every chance he would have just detonated right out there on the mound.

Richards at $26 million or Price at $32 million?

Is Price just a reliever now ? He’s not starting I don’t think.

There's got to be a reason why Porcello's 2020 salary was just $10M and he was still so bad that nobody wants to sign him as a free agent. Never did like him, myself. Good mix of pitches, but all hittable in part because he just never learned how to keep the ball low. To me his signature, this-is-who-I-really-am season was 2017. In 2016 he got the Cy Young Award, and in 2017 he had the same number of starts, 33, but his ERA jumped up from 3.43 to 5.53, for which he was paid $20M.

This!!!

Porcello was still capable of giving us some really good games. Have yet to see that from Richards. 5 innings with 2 runs I guess is average but not great.

I think he would have taken a nice discount and been a good 4 or 5 guy. So far I Would much rather take him than what we have tonight. Never injured, always ready to pitch and could deliver some very solid games. I would take him back if the price is right. Definitely not what he was in his CY Young season, but still a solid 4 or 5 guy.

We must remember that we usually get it going the second time through. It's like the first time around is for scouting purposes only, and then we do our damage the next time through the order

Agreed with both you guys. We will get it going at some point and yes might need a few to win lol definitely at least 5

With the SOX 3, 4 and 5 starters you may get that feeling a lot this season.

I have faith one will come through and maybe Houck and Sale can replace one or two others and give us some good results.

I think you only need to watch Richard's flailing motion to the plate to figure out why he has limited control and effectiveness. The fact that he got through the 3rd/4th without more damage is remarkable

He has calmed down a bit. He’s still throwing some wild pitches , but he has settled down. He looked nervous and all over the place to start. He calmed down and throwing a bit better. I’ll give him credit for that

Need the bats to come alive.

He’s a reliever, because LA is stacked with Kershaw, Bauer, Buehler, Dustin May, Gonsolin, Urias,et al. Price could still start and he would be much better than Richards.

Valid point. I would take him back for sure.

We’re on the board !
