The "no fielders" plan worked out well for JD Martinez, who hit the first pitch he saw from Matt Barnes for a HR.

I think they'll squeeze him onto the roster. Especially if it's just a throw away season. Much easier to stash someone if the stakes are low and there is an expanded roster. It's also not like they have another backup IFer that they couldn't risk DFA'ing.

 

If they really like him, he's not going anywhere.

Good point. It would be more difficult to carry him on a 25 man roster for 162 games. This season will pass in a flash.

The end of yesterday’s scrimmage had no fielders but still had an ump calling balls and strikes. They need a PA guy announcing the batters.

Austin Meadows on IL due to positive COVID test. He had been held out of practice for a while, so I'm guess he either directly knows someone who is sick or wasn't feeling well himself.
