Chaim Bloom has likely been asked to get under the luxury tax threshold while improving on an 84-win team that missed the postseason despite baseball's highest payroll.

That's a tall order.

Fans should probably cut Bloom some slack.

Why cut him any slack? This the Major Leagues not tee ball. No one gets participation trophies. Either you can cut it or you can't.

So should Chaim Bloom trade Mookie Betts for Joc Pederson straight up to save the Red Sox $19 million for luxury tax purposes and to prove to impatient fans that he is on the job?

He should do whatever he has to, to keep the Red Sox in contention. Whatever he does or doesn't do, does not mean he deserves to be " cut any slack". He is as Red Barber used to say is in the cat bird seat. If he can not handle it then he should get another job. Whatever I notice he is not the one asking fans to go easy on him.

It has been done before but it takes some luck .

Perhaps that's precisely what Chaim Bloom is doing.

Or not.

Harmony come onnnn now I don’t just want Joc ! Seager was in the conversation for price and Mookie .I understand it’s not likely but atleast I offered what I want to see .Dont like my players offer up something .This thread is not about throwing Bloom under the bus ....it’s about inactivity and poking fun at it .Wow what a day .I need a break .

Dodgers and Sox are a good match for this trade and some of the above players might make sense, but they can remove Pollock and Urias of the equation and still have a good trade.

Something like this

Betts, Eovaldi & Chavis

for

Maeda, Barnes & Rios

(This is a trade accepted by the simulator)

Too much money for LA to take on.

Betts is not a salary dump. You'd laugh at us, if we suggested a trade like this. Betts is worth 50 on the TS, while Pederson is like 13.

Plus, if we want to just dump Betts, why not get a good prospect(s) that costs zero and has 5+ years of team control?

I could see something like this, even though the trade simulator says it's an overpay by the Sox:

Betts, Eovaldi & Chavis

for

Pollock, Maeda, Barnes, Urias & Vargas/Santana (1B)

If they say no, maybe...

Betts, Eovaldi & Chavis

for

Pollock, Maeda, Barnes, Downs, Busch & Vargas (1B) or Santana (1B)

As I have posted many times before I would be very surprised if the Sox will be willing or able to move Betts before the trade deadline. I think Price and or JBJ are another matter. I suspect that their efforts are concentrated along those lines.

your second proposal is something the Dodgers might agree to

Then, let's throw in Velazquez... LOL!

LOL

I'll call Cashman to give him the a trade proposal with the Dodgers: Cessa for Bellinger

This might be something both sides might agree to:

Betts & Eovaldi (and Velezquez-LOL)

for

Pollock, Maeda, Barnes and Downs

Although the trade simulator refused this trade that was valued at 18.5 vs 20.5 (In LAD favor), I think I'd do this from the Sox POV:

Betts (50.0) & Eovaldi (-29.5)

for

Downs 21.9 (minors 2B)

Maeda 12.2

Barnes 10.0

Peters 8.3 (minors OF)

Vargas 5.4 (minors 1B)

Pollock -39.3

The point was: To appease impatient fans, should Chaim Bloom accept that offer if it's the best offer to date?

Of course not.

Bloom probably has fielded multiple offers, some that remain standing and some that have been withdrawn. The fact that Bloom had not negotiated a major trade on December 18 should not be evidence that he is not doing his job.

If I’m Bloom, I don’t attach anyone to Betts, I try to maximize my return for him.

Betts for Seager, Maeda, and a prospect. Likely not gonna get one of their top 5, but can probably sneak a top 10 guy from them

The Dodgers probably think two years of 25-year-old shortstop Corey Seager is worth more than one year of 27-year-old outfielder Mookie Betts ... and the Baseball Trade Values simulator agrees:

I'm not thinking or trying to imply otherwise.

I just said I think a deal will be made soon.

Besides Urias is Mexican they have been looking for the next "Fernando Valenzuela" for years and won't trade away the chance of keeping their Mexican fan base happy and the revenue that comes with them. I don't see them trading him away specially in a trade like this.

They traded away Ismael Valdez, and he had far fewer off-field issues than Urias...

That’s a horrible deal for the Dodgers and doesn’t make sense for either team.

But at least you stuck your neck out...

I find it funny how he has bashed many of our proposals and his is a landslide coup in the Sox favor.

Bloom should just sign Bugs Bunny. He can play all 9 positions at once. That would save money.

Bad idea!! He gave up 95 runs in that game!!!

It does not prove that he is either. In fact it is proof of nothing.

You should only take "the best offer to date," if you think it's a good deal, and you don't think you can get more.

To my way of thinking no GM should ever make a deal just to make a deal even if it is a good one. Deals should only be made if the club is better off after the deal than before.

The real issue here is none of us knows what Bloom's actual instructions from Henry really are. We all presume that it is to get below the LT. However since making that somewhat oblique remark several months ago other statements coming out folks like Kennedy seem to indicate that getting below the LT may not be the absolute bottom line goal that Bloom is trying to achieve. We may all think it is but none of us really knows for certain.

Again for my part, I think there is a lot of misdirection and possible disinformation being spread about Boston's intentions. This may be done to obscure some move that may surprise us all. I suspect that this may be the case to prevent other clubs from disrupting whatever Boston plays to do since unlike other clubs the Sox aren't in a position to merely throw money at the problem, like the Yankees have done with Cole, to achieve their objectives.

But we have irrefutable proof of your impatience ;)
