In case some of the game thread regulars don't look at the other forum topics much, it is amazing to see how deep in the weeds some of the brighter bulbs on this site are stuck dissecting the season. What was fairly obvious earlier has finally become harsh reality so the comments become more and more esoteric.

 

 

Brighter bulbs? What are we? Gas lanterns? Don't answer; it's rhetorical.

I will irritate some with this but it's time to enjoy season , so here are some non-stat based comments: Moreland is a good glove guy with a bat not much better than JBJr and the endurance of CC Sabathia.

You my fellow traveler are a candle in the wind , whose observations do not meet the criteria of the elite who can handicap Cy Young's progression through amateur baseball of the early 20th century but cannot see a weak effort team in front of their eyes. A group of gutless wonders with no more clue as to how to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat than to just roll over and rest until Spring Training when major rest periods will be scheduled

Just a wild guess from watching numerous games both early and late in the season, I do think there is limited affinity between JBJr and Mookie Betts. just a hunch, doesn't mean anything. Yaz and Conigliaro did not get along

Back when a fan would say "wow, he makes $30,000.00 to play a game I'd play for less than that." Also, back when a player felt an allegiance to the team he was on.

Baseball is just part of the entertainment industry. Look how much actors are paid to be in movies? And most of the movies aren't even good. As long as people pay to escape the crap of real life, I guess there really isn't a problem for the mediocrity in many cases of the entertainment involved.

Speaking of mediocrity, I see the Sly Stallone is doing another sequel to First Blood. He will have a double in the film for any activity involving walking.

Here's a clue to this season; In the 8th inning of an 8-5 game with Red Sox vs Yankees in Fenway, the number of players on the combined benches equals or exceeds the fans left in the stands.

I will give Sly Stallone this. When Sly wrote the screenplay for Rocky, he shopped it around to the major studios and was offered big bucks for it. Sly turned the money down because he wasn't going to sell the script unless he got to play Rocky. Finally, United Artists agreed to Sly's demands and the rest is history. I give Stallone credit for sticking to his guns and not giving in for the money. I just wish he had only done two Rocky movies. The 1st two, of course.

Choke on this Sox fans:The Red Sox--Bambino curse began in 1919 after winning the Ws in 1918. From 1901 to 1918 the Sox won 5 WS. From 2001 (or '04 to be technical) the Sox won 4, eerily similar. Get ready because the reset will cover the next 86 years, mostly because of Beni and JBJr

 

I’ve sort of jokingly said several times that the Red Sox always do well the first 18 years of a century.

 

Let’s just hope history doesn’t repeat for the next 15 years because the Sox really sucked from 1919 until 1934. And I mean sucked as in last place finishes for a lot of years in a row.
