I believe, MOON, that the SOX are the only team in MLB with 3 players having an OPS over .900.

This also magnifies how important pitching is.

Yep. In a nutshell our offense scores enough runs to win but the pitching allows too many.

The SOX offense is actually better this year than last.

The thing is, some of these guys want DD's head on a stick but he did what a good GM does - he put together a team that should win. NOBODY could have predicted that all three of our starting pitchers would implode.

Just as NOBODY would have predicted that E-rod would be the ACE of the staff.

The only valid criticism I would aim at DD was not having an established closer in the pen.

I don't even fault him for that. If we had Kimbrel on the team this year he'd spend a lot of time sitting on the bench saying, "Gee, I wish we had a lead going into the 9th" so I could pitch".

BP's are such a crapshoot anyway. This year's BP reminds me of last year's BP - shaky and maligned during the early part of the season but finding their stride later in the year.

With a healthy Holt and Marco, I don't understand why Owings is on the team. I know he's a RH batter, but he can't hit, so what's the point?

I never understood Owings anyway. Period.

A closer would not help, not with Sale, Porcello, and Price stinking all nearly year.

This is very true, but I was referring to the beginning of the season when SOX were employing closing by committee, which failed miserably.

Thanks, I definitely was off base on that stat.

Going to the Tigers when he did was probably the reason JD is what he is today as a hitter. Working with Cabrera and Victor Martinez had to have made an impact on his approach to hitting. The deep breath before every pitch is straight from the Martinez approach at the plate.
