That's the thing. The Yanks aren't afraid of the sox pen. Just work the starters and try to scratch across some runs, get them out before the 6th and rake vs the overmatched pen. DD doesn't need just a closer. He needs 2 high end relievers. That pen is shot in effectiveness and confidence

News flash: the starters except for Price also suck.

Exactly. Even sale has been s*** his last two starts.

There is a massive gap in talent and performance. Can it be made up by guys having career season type second halves? Maybe. We’ve demolished the AL and have run up a 107 win pace with no contribution from an MVP (Stanton), a two years running top ten CY starter (Sevy), and our best reliever from last year (Betances). We are going to be getting better with no roster adds if these guys can make it back

Lol dream alittle dream my friend .

The Yankees have added a lot to its roster. Stanton, they didn't really need him after going toe to toe with the Astros the year before. They didn't need Octavino, but signed him anyway. Added solid pieces with LeMalahiu, Britton, Paxton to their 100 win team last year. They went all in. I think Cashman needed it to finally claim a world series.

Most ironic part of this weekend: the offense which had been struggling to score runs in the first inning put up a 6 spot and a 4 spot, all for naught.

They would have won both games with a decent pen. Such a group of s***.

I would not be so sure about that. The Yankmees started pulling players out once they had like 8-10 run leads in those games.

What....do we think we would have finally one of these ridiculous Manfred-ball games 25-24? They have more firepower in the batting order and more horse in the pen. We just have to deal with it not being our year at least as it relates to the division and probably a meaningful WS run.

All we have is a Rotation that is not performing to its expectations. In fact, given Cora's tactical blunder at the start I am beginning to wonder what the f*** the Sox brass actually had for expectations regarding this Rotation.

Pretty much agree the Yankees have a great bullpen and just maybe--now--the best lineup in MLB. So they get the AL East and a good shot at the WS, and we do not.

Our hitting this year is not as good--especially Mookie and JDM--as last year, but it's still pretty good because Bogie and Devers and JBJ and Vazquez are better than last year.

But even I have to admit the bullpen is problematical. For those of you who wish we had Kimbrel back, a simple rejoinder: he would not have pitched in either game in London because the Sox never got the lead back (or even a tie) after the Yankees forged ahead.

And the rotation is also problematical if only because JH is spending $88M on them this year and they are all, Price and Sale included, unreliable.

No question the pen is a huge problem. I have alternately called them the Bucket-o-Chicken Bullpen Bums or the Basket-o-Chicken Bullpen Bums just to play to whatever particular fast food fried chicken people might prefer. They stink....sorry, throw all the stats at me you want fans of the pen....they stink.

However the way the game is played today the pen or I should say your pen has to start with a guy that can reliably be expected to meet the challenge of the 9th inning. It starts with that as having somebody that can, lifts your entire team and not having one deflates your entire team. As such if John Henry can't be convinced by DD/Kennedy to part with much money, get a Closer, even a slightly over the hill Closer. ANYBODY would be better than what we are tossing out there in the 9th now. Cora will have to stitch it together between when the Starter exits and the Closer enters, just like every other Manager in contemporary MLB.

The sox pen lacks a leader and hence they lack confidence. They are in full on meltdown mode. They're undermanned and now overworked. They need to limp into the break and get some rest then hope reinforcements are on the way
