Can’t imagine we gave up anything of value, but he’s a good defender who offers speed and little else. He will function as our 4th OFer/depth for Gardner should the older position player on our roster join the pups on the DL

What a pick up to this point. He seems to be in the mix every time we score these days. The kid isn't hitting for much power, but he is a very destructive punch and judy hitter with his speed and his penchant to go to other way. He got into trouble everywhere he went when he started looking for the long ball. Maybe he has found something here

It's funny, I've always thought of Maybin as a young player because the story around him has always been "he's raw but he has all the tools you're looking for". Now at 32 years old and in his 13th season, I think we can stop referring to him as a kid.

Nomenclature aside, Maybin has done more for the team than anyone could have reasonably expected. Cashman wins again.

I have liked his game. He is not such a great hitter but he plays hard and fast.

And he has a cool name.

I'm 63. He's a kid.

When Didi comes back I guess we DFA Morales. When Judge and Stanton come back and everyone is still hopefully healthy, Fraizer gets sent down and Maybin... could be a nice trade chip. Some team like the Phillies or Rockies could use him or even back to the Guardians for a lotto pick similar to what we gave up for McCutchen last year.

McCutchen had much more value on the market than Maybin has.

Maybin has the benefit of being on a MiLB deal, but the point remains. McCutchen was the far better player.

Either way, Cashman had talked to stanton about ramping up to play the OF when he came back, but with his ailments, he’s likely to be a strict DH. This would make Frazier entirely expendable to AAA and carve out a role for Maybin as the 4th OFer. With the likelihood that we will have an extra infielder plus Romine, having a guy who can play CF in a pinch and steal bases late in games is not a bad thing.
