If your wife was an 8, would you trade her for two 3’s and a 2?

(I know she’s a 10, but I’m using your numbers to make my point.)

Some days :D:D

It's not just the contract situation. He's the reigning MVP and a reigning WS Champ. Even without an impending huge free agency payout, that is a lot to live up to. All the speculation about his contract only makes things more difficult.

I wouldn't be surprised if he struggles a bit. OTOH, I wouldn't be surprised if he wins MVP again.

Geez, is he a snowflake?

These guys didn't get to where they are today without any adversity.

Let's stop with the nonsense.

I’m seriously not even remotely worried about Mookie Betts. His “struggles” were over a 7 game span. 1 big game tonight and he’s almost at .300 again. Hitters have hit streaks and slumps, it happens for every hitter, even the elite ones. He doesn’t need excuses, because he’ll produce, and if he didn’t I’m sure he wouldn’t make any, and definitely wouldn’t blame the contract dilemma.

Actually no.

Getting 8 WAR out of 3 players is not as good as getting 8 WAR out of one. If for no other reason that with the one player, you’re still going to need 2 more...

It's not only the WAR that you're trading, but the goal is to trade for cost controlled players, where the saved money could go a long way in improving the team in other ways.

Of course there is no certainty, but hopefully you trade for some youngsters who will become the next Mookie, or somewhere close to it.

IMO, if we know we're not extending him, it would not be very wise to let him walk for just a draft pick, especially when there would still be a possibility of re-signing him as a free agent.

My money is on Mookie having another great season.

That said, if you think all of the media attention etc. doesn't affect the players, you are only kidding yourself.

Mookie, like Sale and the rest of the team, will be fine.

If the 2020 Red Sox are completely out of it in July, it could certainly make sense to trade him. They went that route with Lester, of course.

I kind of liked it. He should have used spouse/partner though and not made it gender-specific.

I'm not bothered by the gender specificity of his statement.

Comparing partners to players on a baseball team doesn't compute.

If the 2020 Sox are completely out of it in July, it would make no sense not to trade him, IMO.

If the Sox are still in it, I would not trade him, unless the trade would somehow upgrade both the current and future teams.

The better option would probably be to trade him this offseason.

But I don't think trading him this offseason would improve the 2020 team's chances.

Oh I know...and I was trying to make light of the political correctness aspect...such is the internet. As I said I kind of liked it.
