The Diamondbacks hired Ariz. native Dan Butler as a bullpen catcher. He's retiring as a player after 10 professional seasons that included nine MLB games with the Sox, two last season. He played parts of 8 seasons with Pawtucket. Pretty darn good for an undrafted free agent.

Thanks Dan for the great career and for contributing largely to a ws ring

He followed his dream. Great perseverance. You don't get where he got without being a damned gifted athlete. Congratulations and good luck moving forward.

I don't think some people realize how hard it is to even make the MLB after going undrafted in baseball. That's almost unheard of, especially more recently with how good scouting is.

Glad they brought him up, he gets a full share, which for guy like him is huge. It's over $400,000. I always liked Butler, he'll be a good Coach. Good Luck, Dan.

There are certainly many of us fans who wish that we could have accomplished what Butler was able to do. Congrats to Dan on his playing career and now his coaching career.

Interesting....career catcher, 2957 plate appearances in the minors, 27 in the majors.

"Yeah, I was in the show. I was in the show for 21 days once - the 21 greatest days of my life. You know, you never handle your luggage in the show, somebody else carries your bags. It was great. You hit white balls for batting practice, the ballparks are like cathedrals, the hotels all have room service, and the women all have long legs and brains." -- Crash Davis

Good luck in your future endeavors, Mr. Butler.
