Interesting development. He had 2 yrs and $64 mil left. He gets only $29 mil in guaranteed money added on. He can add $4.5 mil per season in incentives. No further opt outs. This deal is one of two things to me. He either didn’t think he could stay healthy enough to hit the market or insist on another opt out, or he really wanted to stay in LA that badly. This is a great deal for LA

Even if the AAV is high, if something goes wrong is only 3 years not like he will cripple the team for many years

It may be a combination of both to some degree, but I think Kershaw wants to stay in LA. He's making enough money where he doesn't have to go out and try to get a bigger deal.

As I posted elsewhere, I'm a Kershaw fan and really didn't want to see him sign with the Yankees. I'm glad he's staying with the Dodgers.

Refreshing to see someone who's already made a quintillion dollars not go out and seek more.

I don't know how this is a great deal for LA.

Kershaw is past his prime and declining.

My sentiments exactly.
