Hate to say it but it was so predictable. E-Rod has great raw talent but something is missing. Could he be so dumb to continually nibble himself into trouble? 4 of the runs were due to his walks. Hembree has been and continues to be unable to get any job done. Good job Cora. If I could see it coming, he could as well. Kind of makes you sick to see the Sox throwing a winnable game away. The Yankees aren't that good.

Hembree would be the last guy I'd bring in,, but Cora's the manager and he is a baseball genius. No one rest players better than he does.

What a crock. The Sox bullpen to a man is dead meat in this series. Or aren't you keeping track of that stuff?

I would hope in the postseason he would have gone to wright after the mccutcheon walk.

You don't leave the starter that is about to close in on 100 pitches in the 4th. Who cares the BP stats at that point, take EdRod out by the ear.

You actually can't manage good pitching this badly and expect to get anywhere in the post season...never mind your 4th starter and your PEN OF PAIN. Horrible...just horrible.

I'm not sure I buy the nibbled himself to death theory. My view is that the Yankees were killing most everything in the strike zone, but especially ERod's fast ball. Absolutely, ERod was using too many pitches, but that's a function of his inability to hit corners, especially with his breaking stuff.

Am I the only one on this thread who realizes that

1) season to date, the Yankees have the 2d best hitting in MLB and lead in dingers?

2) their lineup is even hotter lately, especially with Judge back?

3) the Yankees had 8 pretty good righty bats in their lineup?

Not sure I agree. His favorite pitch by far is his fastball, and the Yankees love it even more than he does. If he threw wicked breaking stuff to contact, I could see it. But not that fastball. And, by the way, the Sox are also hitting Tanaka's fast ball well.

Listen the guy needed to eat up innings and he failed completely. I still don’t trust this guy in a big spot. He seems to be missing something. Toughness.

But to be clear, I am not putting this on Cora specifically though he is the Manager. I am not putting it on Eddie specifically, not on Vaz, not on Lavanche and not entirely on Hembree. Hembree can only be Hembree for God sake. Get up off your dead ass Lavanche. This tonight and actually this series is a failure of the entire organization that manages this team's pitching.

This whole group should be crucified this season if they gag again. They deserve it.

Meh. My opinion, for what it's worth, is that your expectation was way too high: the Yankees right now have the best lineup in MLB, better than ours; they had 8 righty bats; ERod can't keep the ball low consistently, especially not for stgrikes; ERod doesn't have great breaking stuff with which to challenge hitters.

I don’t wanna hear about best lineups. The guy has to come through. He’s capable of doing that. This team has played miserable baseball and we already know their track record in big spots.

Wright a knuckleballer gets more extension toward home plate than Hembree does when Hembree is short arming his pitches. Like I said, I could not even get the post up before the ball was already sitting in the RF grandstands. Hembree is shor...........BANG....never mind.

The playoffs are a crapshoot with the Sox having no more than a 20% chance at a ring. I would not crucify them for "gagging" in the playoffs when they have far less than a 50% chance to win it all. Its been a fun season...with some frustrating moments like this series. I have enjoyed it thoroughly.

7 walks for E-Rod!!!!! Horrible performance. Put him down the list for playoff starters and how can he be used out of the pen with all those walks. They have plenty of guys that can do that. So much for Hembree being good with runners on base. I will say that it was a cheap Yankee stadium home run but that is no excuse. I would like to see the Sox start hitting some cheap home runs there.

DD comes in for some criticism here too. He has never and i do mean never learned how to build a pen. Its getting to the point where I think he is simply incapable either because he just does not care about a pen IN THE ERA OF THE PEN or he just can't do it.

Might want to bring in Wright. Why not? Is there anyone in the SOX BP that's better?

So I would have preferred Cora not let the Yankees see Wright in this game. My point in the earlier post was if this game mattered (postseason) I would expect Cora to have gone to wright after the Cutch walk. But since he didn’t why bring him in now? Why give their batters ABs against the knuckler now? Should have kept that on ice....

He will have to have a very short leash in the playoffs. Cora will have to have Wright and Velazquez ready to piggyback with him in game 4. Edited by a700hitter

Are you kidding me? This is Boston not Milwaukee. It would be 3 straight playoff appearances without getting out of the ALDS. You already putting excuses for this bunch. Get past the divisional round!

I disagree he is capable of that right now against a good lineup. He does not have good command of his pitches and over relies on his fastball which the Yankees hit with ease (except when he throws it high and the swing at it.

The guy has pitched well before against the Yankees. It’s excuses. He knew he had to come through for the club. 7 walks? That’s ridiculous.

This IS the dilemma for Cora. This IS exactly how Wright should be used post season. Bring him in no later than the 6th inning. If you bring him into the 5th and he really has the knuckler working through 5th and 6th then you can give him the 7th as well. But this pen is so bad I am afraid Cora will be tempted to bring him in late in games. If Wright does not have it we won't have enough outs left to play with to come back from a deficit.

You know what we need? Our starters to go 7 innings. Not 6 but 7.

Did you read my post? I said there is maybe a 20% chance at a ring. I didn't even mention the ALDS. We probably have a slightly better than 50% chance to make it to the ALCS. We are playing some really good teams, not the Orioles. We will not dominate any of them. If you expect that we will you will be very disappointed.
