I f***ed up. I meant to type Mookie as I was responding to Kimmi's post about JD and Mookie slumping.

Ah. Well now your post makes a lot more sense. :)

You beat me to it LOL. What a bunch of smartasses we are.

I've always been a defense-oriented person, even as a coach I'd tell my kids that "If they don't score they can't win." And "All you have to do to win is to hold them to fewer runs than we score."

While a player can't have control of the offense because he can't control what the pitcher does, a player can have control over his defense and the better he plays defense the better his chances of winning.

Well said. A major factor in the SOX success so far this season is the defensive prowess of their OF. With JBJ, Betts, and Beni, I wouldn't hesitate to state that it's the best defensive OF in baseball. That being said about the importance of defense, the SOX have played most, almost all, this season w/o the best defensive 2nd baseman in baseball. As fabulous as the SOX won/lost record is, how many more wins would the SOX have had if they had had Pedey's glove and bat in the line-up most of the season? Oh, well, I guess will never know.

Ain't that a surprise!

I can see how many would think that I was serious about Jacky whiffing.

No, from what I have seen, Mookie has had a rough time very recently. He seems to be striking out most games after striking out rarely before that.

These things are cyclic. I think he will be pounding the ball again soon.

But you are reliant on pitchers for preventing runs as well.

Spud, Mookie is batting .350; his OBP is .437; his slugging percentage is .663, and his OBS is 1.100. Those are splendid numbers. Let me rephrase that; those are Splendid Splinter numbers.

So who is complaining about that?

I just voiced concern over him whiffing more than he has. And now hos BA has dropped from .365 to around .350.

It had been going up.

Well, there's the human factor to consider. Betts is a great player, but he's not a machine. And sometimes, just sometimes, you have to give the opposing pitchers some credit.

Betts loves Camden yard. His average will rise just because he is facing Baltimore pitching.
