it's the reason i hated Lackey. he showed up his teammates all the time.

do i think pedroia is a great baseball player? yes he was. do i think he is a good teammate? no effing way

we are all former athletes at some level (some of us still playing in men's leagues or coaching our kids) and being a good teammate is at the top of my list.

It was one bad incident and it made Pedroia look bad. But it hardly means he has been a bad teammate throughout his career. Maybe he just f***ed up that one time.

Not me, certainly. I would have been ecstatic with .600. I also didn't expect JDM to be this good, for Betts, Beni, and Bogie to bounce back this well, nor for the pitching, especially, the rotation, to be this good.

While I did expect bounce backs from our most of our line up, I did not think JD was going to be this good offensively. I take back every bad word I've ever said about Dombrowski. For today anyway.

By every account of people who have played with both Lackey and Pedroia, both are great teammates.

As far as last night's game goes, what should have been a very comfortable, even boring, game ended up being way too intense in the 7th and 8th innings. Thankfully, the Good Guys prevailed. It's nice to see the bottom or the order contributing.

We're still in the 5th inning.

LOL I said almost the exact same thing in the 5th inning.

That was the slowest game ever.

in all fairness that is exactly the point. it is almost impossible to have players say anything but that about other players. that's also part of being a "good teammate". you dont throw a teammate under the bus. its a fraternity.

now if we hit some of their ex teammates with some sodium pentathal we may have a different perspective.....

perhaps. but unfortunately it will be the last image of Pedroia on a professional baseball field....

thanks Manny!

I guess in a way it would be similar to Machado being asked about his team being in last place and Machado replying "It's them, not me."

The Pedroia incident was a heat-of-the-moment, messy situation, and one where none of us know exactly what led up to it, so it's kind of totally different.

Btw, if Pedey was asked after last night's game how does it feel to be in 1st place with the best record in baseball, and he answered with "it's them, not me", that would be the correct response.

By the same token, if Pedey was asked what it feels like to be on Red Sox World Series Championship teams, and he answered "it's not them, it's me", that would also be a correct response.

What makes the SOX record even more amazing is that they got nothing from a starter who won 17 last season.

???

Unless I misinterpreted your post Pedey's hypothetical response would be almost the same as the one he gave in the Machado incident. The correct response should be, "It's not them or me. It's US."

That's the biggest issue. It should never be "me" or "them". It's always US.

Sorry. I'm not a frequent gamethread contributor anymore. I usually have too much going on in the evenings.

I won't be able to contribute much at all next week as I'll be on vacation.

My post was just a wiseass response to Splinter's immediately preceding wiseass post.

The Lord has finally answered my prayers. Thank you great Lord.

I'm stuck in San Antonio for the weekend. I think someone once wrote it is better to be dead, than alive in San Antonio.
