IMO the hardest thing for these guys to get used to is that in the bigs, real mistake pitches just get hit. Even if they are not crushed they get hit.

Agree 100%

Is there a story behind his choice of number.

5 spot in the first inning. 7 run rule in effect.

Hey Dewey, did we see him in Fort Myers or did I just see that on TV? I remember him getting blown up and sent down the next day.

Can anyone say Bobby Sprowl? This is a far cry from Buch’s debut against a potent Angels offense.

If you go over to the Beeks thread, you will find universal enthusiasm for starting him tonight. Even I said it would be fine.

But this kid threw way too many fastballs and got killed.

Beeks is probably saying to himself "gee that HR ball did not seem like THAT BAD a pitch". But you just can't throw pitches that are doing nothing and get that much plate. Sure it was down but that was at it was ...down....almost center cut and doing nothing. A guy that is not even a HR hitter, barely gets the barrel on it and GONE. Serious rude awakening.

For all the people saying it was a stupid decision, I didn't see any of you complaining about the move before the game. Hindsight is 20/20

It's mostly on Beeks, but I have to think everyone--Cora, the pitching coach, and Swihart (who probably had no opinion)--agreed that lots of fast balls in the 1st innings was the way to go.

The great thing about this current Beni run is that he is not overswinging, not allowing his swing to get big and just as it should, the balls go.
