Not all of Boyer's pitches are awful--the Orioles got at least two hits on little more than half swings to the opposite field, something the Sox have lost the skill to do.

Trade the whole team for Stanton, rather watch him hit 60 homers than this s*** show. Cant throw in Groome to get him because he's f.. out for the year.

Actually you can throw in any Minors' starter we have, because you can BOOK IT that they will at best be end up end of rotation guys, even when selected in the first round. We will pick up our starters from elsewhere, PER USUAL.

It would be best if Groome got his Tommy John surgery now instead of waiting for the inevitable.

FYI...that slide from machado caused the injury. He took pedroia out. He took Nunez out. He threw his arms toward him on the slide and pinned nunez' arm to the ground. Watch it again and you'll see.

9 unearned runs!
Earned or unearned, our pitchers gave up 20 hits and 22 base runners. 9 hits, 10 base runners, and 3 HRs allowed by Porcello in 4 2/3 innings. Only 2 of the 22 base runners were allowed by Moreland. Clean fielding wasn't going to save this team tonight.

A700......... you posted the other day about Wright. Mentioned it wasn't just his shoulder, and was his back, I didn't catch the whole gist of it. What's the deal with Wright?

They are both terrible to begin with! 13-3, Salty just called "big out" on a ground ball, out no 3. What is he doing there anyway?

This was funny..... we are down a touchdown and a field goal and Salty was trying to make like we had a chance. Even OB said something to the effect of Salty being the most wishful person in the stadium.

But....... by the time that was happening....... it's such a s*** show anyway......... they might as well have monkeys throwing poop let loose in the broadcast booth just to make it semi worthehile to listen to...

David Wright has stenosis of the spine. That was the end for him. He fought his way back to return to the field on a limited basis. Last year, he had a slipped disc or ruptured disk in his neck that required surgery including spinal fusion. That is very debilitating. Look at how long that surgery get Peyton Manning out of action and it sapped is arm strength. Add to that a shoulder problem. The guy is toast --a physical wreck.

Dang it...... the guy had some amazing stretches of games. All star caliber worthy, more than any of us could expect. A guy like that without the super freak natural ability kicking ass made him a champion of mine............. that sucks to hear..........

He really looked unspectacular. He had good skills, but nothing flashy. He was extremely consistent, and each season you realized that he had put up some excellent numbers, and he was a pretty good base runner too.

Jesus. What is going on with the pitching. Sale with back to back awful games and now Porcello. Man this team when they are off their groove they are really off. Absolutely depressing.

Sounds about right, but he should have brushed up on his base running skills. I can't remember ever checking out the humidity before a game to see our chances before Wright was scheduled in the lineup. If I can thank him for anything, is that he allowed me to pretend I was a weatherman for a couple months during the season......

Oh, I think we have been misunderstanding each other. I had been talking about David Wright's (Mets)injury history and you thought I was referring to Steven Wright (Red Sox pitcher). Sorry for the misunderstanding.

About Steven Wright, sox prospects summation is: potential for fringe fifth starter. He was better than that, but not as good as the hype last year on talksox. I mean, his knuckler would come and go.

But, heck, control has been an issue for Porcello this year to a degree that is mind-boggling. Ditto ERod.

Pomeranz gets away with basically 2 pitches--a 91 mph fast ball and an excellent knuckle curve--because they work well in tandem, because he works hard at hitting spots with steadily improving command, and because--contrary to what I have said much too often about him--he is very determined. His turnaround this year came after he publicly complained about Farrell taking him out too soon. I thought Farrell was right, but liked Pomeranz speaking up, especially when he backed the words up with deeds. ERod should have that determination, but that 95 mph fast ball of his makes him think that's all he really needs.

I think Fister is similarly determined, and Sale the consummate professional baseball player who also happens to be a very good pitcher. He is that rare blend of hyper-competitive but also very focused.

These kind of games must be a nightmare for the broadcasters.......... I'd start doing bong hits if I was in the booth just to get through it....

Now THAT would be funny.

9 unearned runs!

My box score says only 7 unearned runs. But five errors, all on bad throws. What did Casey Stengal say back in the early Mets years when Marvelous Marv Throneberry ("stone hands") played 1b? "Can't anybody out there play this game?"

In his last 10 appearances, Kelly has given up 8 runs in 10 innings. His 100 mph fastball ain't enough when the other team can sit on it knowing he can't throw a curve or other breaking ball for a strike.

The Sox team ERA has dropped back to 2d best in the AL maybe because of an over-reliance on fastballs along with an inability to hit spots, especially with breaking balls. At his best, Uehara couldn't throw a fast ball over 90 mph for love nor money. But he had that great splitter, terrific command of his pitches, and total confidence when he threw a pitch. Because of that he seemed to be able to throw that nothing fastball with impunity. That's pitching.

Sale has a darn good slider and pretty good control of it too, but the problem is that like 80% of the guys he faces are righties, which reduces the effectiveness of that slider. He has a decent changeup, but my guess is that, even against righty batters, he uses it about 1/3 as often as the slider. And, of course, he has the terrific fastball that he still throw 50% of the time.

Porcello's basic problem, I think (and will await someone else's analysis), is that he cannot consistently keep the ball low in the strike zone in an era when smarter pitchers have realized that that ability alone is more important than having great stuff which Porcello also does not have.

Those shifts, which are having a pronounced effect on hitters, have caused some of them to want to get the ball in the air over the shifts. This in turn makes controlling the lower part of the strike zone ever more important to enable those shifts to be effective. I think the Sox pitching coach has done a good job this year, but not with Porcello. Or maybe Porcello is dumb as a post.

Monkeys doing bong hits and throwing poop. Now THAT is f***ing entertainment.
