What makes you think the wild card games don't qualify as postseason, playoff games?

Let me put it this way. The postseason start with the WC match which btw I do not like it. The POs? with the divisional series. ;)

We used to have this kind of format competition in our soccer league. The WC match was called "repechaje" or "repezca" and after that game, the PO games called "la liguilla" or "la fiesta grande" started. These days "el repechaje" is not played anymore since most of the fans did not like it so it was eliminated.

I have heard and read all the rationale before, so I am glad that you didn't waste your time repeati g any of it. J never agreed with the rationale. Just because they gave the reasoning for their actions doesn't make the judgment sound.

Just because you disagree with it or because it doesn't work doesn't make the judgment unsound. It's the same thing with the strategy for building this team.

My basic question about the Lackey trade to the Sox FO would be this: did they expect that this would make us a better team in 2015? Forget about 2016 and beyond, I want to know about 2015.

It is the first week of August, even that has not been established.

Double Ha! Why do you get to establish what a serious playoff contender is? They have been in the race for 4+ months of the season. They were buyers at the deadline. They are serious playoff contenders, one year ahead of schedule.

I love it.

Take a quote from someone else and then dictate to them what it means.

This is what I'm saying. In 2013, the Cubs were 30 games under .500 and finished in last place. They were 16 games under .500 last year and finished in last place. They are 11 games over .500 this year with the 7th best record in baseball. I think Theo has made his statement.

In terms of this trade alone for this year only, probably not, though I don't think they expected the dropoff to be that significant. That said, we both know that that is not how most trades are evluated. You have to consider many other factors/players not only for this season, but for the long term as well. Even if you're not looking beyond 2015, there were sound reasons for making this trade.

The quote will stay in my signature until the end of the year. I think that we will be able to agree at that time whether the Cubs were serious contenders. There are 2 months of baseball left. Let's see what happens. What is the rush with having me drop the quote? It isn't insulting or derogatory to anyone -- not you or your beloved Theo.

As for you Sox n Cycles, butt out of my business jackhole.

Not gonna happen, Skippy.

I like their pitching lead by Lester but I do not think they have enough offense to make it but you never know. They have been better this year but IMO STL is still 2 steps a head them in the coming future. IMO they will compete for a WC spot in the coming future with NYM, PIT, SFG, and someone else at best.

Said that I think Theo learned some lessons after the mess he left here, but saying that he is a genius is a bit precipitate, you still need to see the results which in the end are what really matters.

That's fine if you want to keep the quote there. I'm not offended by it. I just think that Theo has already made his statement by what the Cubs are doing this year, so getting me to admit that he is not the genius that I thought he was is likely not going to happen.

This is why you are a maricón which btw in this case is not meant to be faggot although IDK if you are.

Well a lot of the trade was based on looking beyond 2015 and the number of controllable years the two players had.

That aside, for 2015, the Sox were getting what should have been a serviceable starting pitcher back. Not as good as Lackey, but a serviceable mid to back end guy. In addition, Craig was recently one of the best hitters in the league. Coming off an injury, you would expect him to be able to rebound to be a good hitter. Craig offered at the very least some depth for the team at both 1B and the OF. Victorino and Castillo both had question marks coming into the season. At best, he could have been a formidable power bat in the middle of the line up.

Another possibility is that Craig could have been used as a trade chip to strengthen another area of need.

It was a terrible move all around. Basically we ate most of his bad years and when he finally seemed healthy, we traded him. Unbelievable!

Not sure if this is the worst trade ever, but it should be considered as one of the worst. You do not give up a No 2-3 for junk.

We will have a clearer picture at the end of the year. Right now, things are looking good for him.
