I don't mean to be a douche about it. I just think that Oakland fell apart for a variety of reasons. Not because of the trade where they lost the beloved Cuban hack and gained one of the best lefties in the game at the time.

So, something about Wade Miley and Thunder just go together. Thunder mojo is responsible for two of his better starts on the year, that shutout @ Tampa in April, and tonight. Also, my at the game mojo gave him an 8 inning gem two weeks ago Sunday.

The big problem with the A's last year was their offense sputtered when it mattered. It seemed like it was a product of their completely awful pitching coach, Chili Davis.

 

Or trading their Cuban sparkplug.

I think it's argued if Bean went for Lester to put them over the top, or to save the season as he saw something coming which is what he said.

 

I forget the particulars..... but it was right around the Lester trade the offense went downhill. Bean had some explaining to do during the fall and at the end.

 

Some players were talking about chemistry lost with the trade, but who knows. Cespedes was playing well that year, or at least driving in runs.

 

Personally I'd chalk it up to don't mess with something good, but I have hindsight now. I also could never argue to add Lester to your rotation to make a playoff push.
