err...the red sox struck out, as a team last year, at a rate of 20.5% (20.9% this year, but they didn't win a WS this year, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and go with the lower rate). Cespedes is striking out this year at 18.3%. So how about we do this, I have an idea.

I'll stop asking questions about what the hell you're talking about when you start making comments that aren't factually and completely wrong. K? Cool.

No. Not okay.

To say that the Sox as an organization do not stress plate discipline, taking many pitches, walking, and an "OBP" approach is not factually correct.

Play with your stats and pat yourself on the back all that you wish if it massages your ego.

My observation and point are valid.

K? Cool.

Just as a side point, something that absolutely kills me about sports is when players start getting bitchy about wanting a contract torn up and redone - especially in football with the holdouts. Never mind fines, players should be suspended if they hold out. You signed that piece of paper, and the fact you don't like it any more is tough f***ing s***.

Lackey has been quoted as saying that he will honor his contact and play for the minimum next year in St. Louis. Interesting stuff.

weird that you just shut up after that, jackso.

He is mad the $pankees didn't get him. The $panks still don't have any power in the OF. As far as a grade for BC you have to wait until spring training. Thursday was step 1. August and September are step 2. To inventory what they have. Step 3 is to rebuild the pitching staff. As far as Craig goes, if he returns to form the Sox won this deal. Kelly started one of the WS games for the Cards last year. I think he is being under valued.

In all fairness, the franchise tag is ******** for nfl players. They DON'T sign that piece of paper. They hit free agency, and that piece of paper is shoved down their throat. Look at Jimmy Graham, is he really only worth a $7 million dollar contract? In all other scenarios, I agree with you.

Please show me where I ever mentioned anything about his OBP. Please do.

Ok I'll just wait here.

All I ever mentioned was strikeouts. He doesn't K a lot like everyone seems to think. Not sure where this narrative came up but it's garbage.

I agree and have always agreed that his plate discipline is poor and his OBP is poor. All I ever said is that he doesn't k at a high rate.

Okay. That is fair and I agree. I don't think that it's all that important. I'm just concerned by the downward trend in Cespedes's OBP and BA over the past three years.

I like the power bat added to the lineup but I also see a .300 OBP that goes with it. Hopefully he will be peppering the wall with XBH and driving in runs.

Also hoping that going from the massive parks of the al west to the tiny confines of the al east help out. The foul ball territory is absolutely massive in Oakland.

Zips, which projects stats fairly conservatively, has Cespedes as a .275/.330/.485 hitter for the Sox. I'll take that all day (though I think it's light on the slugging)

K's are a nonissue compared to the other stuff. That said, I agree the raw power and defense (the metrics recently more than the eye test) are enough that if he can move his OBP back towards "good enough" (league average or so), he can be a 3+win player and that would be tremendously useful.

If Ben acted earlier, we could gotten Headley for Doubront. I don't see how MIddlebrooks can consistently play 3B for us.

Well WMB will amount to much if he keeps being jerked in and out of the lineup. Farrell has to get his head out of his rear end and put him on third and keep him there and play him every game and give him a full chance as he has with Bradley, who has stunk up the joint like s*** in a sewer. Any other way and they are just programming him to fail. If we are not going to play Betts in center then put Holt out there. And don't tell me he can't play CF. Get Bradley the hell out of the lineup once and for all. He is a fourth or fifth outfielder who should be sent in for defensive purposes late in a game---AND NOTHING MORE!!!!!!

The Padres didn't need pitching at all. They have a wealth of it.
