NC84, the people we should really be pissed off at are the gutless umpires and crapped out last night when they didn't eject Price after he hit Carp. The g utless bastards warned both teams in the first inning when they should have only warned that ******* sitting in the Rays dugout and that dipshit on the mound. That Price wasn't shelved after he hit a second batter tells me only that these umps had as much backbone at a chocolate éclair. Their lack of courage has only dialed the tension up higher and I can assure you if you don't already know it already that the first Red Sox player to go down tonight is going to result in some pretty ugly stuff.

Fred, this is why you don't get so worked up over small samples. When you were upset about X's numbers w RISP, he had about 30 PA. So few that his average jumped by 75 points in just 2 games.

 

Xander is one of our best players, by WAR he's been our best position player. He's the 2nd best SS in the MLB by WAR, #1 in AL.

 

Just gotta give him some time to make his adjustments.

That was a fun game to watch. A lot of theater. Baseball is entertainment and this game was very entertaining.

 

I think that the ump should have warned Price only when he hit Ortiz but I can see why he warned both teams. Given the history and especially what happened in Tampa last series, the ump was trying to keep the game from getting ugly and to maintain control. Unfortunately, when he failed to toss Price after hitting Carp he stoked the fire and lost control of the game. That was way stupid and the Sox have a right to be pissed. And then when Workman got tossed for throwing a pitch 3 feet behind a batter the ump compounded his stupidity. What a mess. Farrell had a right to be angry and upset. It was the umps fault that Farrell had to be tossed.

 

In any case, it was riveting baseball drama. I really love games like this. Especially when the Sox prevail.

 

Someone up thread made a comment about Workman being crap or something in his first start against Tampa. This is nonsense. Workman has looked pretty good to me. Certainly a better number 5 than Buch, and even a better 4 than Doubrant has been giving us ( overall ).

 

I get a kick out of the media and fans that are just now discovering the heated rivalry between these two teams. This stuff has been happening for a long time. This is why I never miss a Sox / DEVIL Rays game.

I imagine anyone who missed the game and then checked the box score was very confused!

 

Absolute horseshit performance by the umps. This game was out of control after the first inning. After having pinpoint control all season, hitting just 2 batsmen before tonight and giving up barely any walks - Price was practically begging to get ejected (meanwhile Farrell gets tossed before he can make it halfway to the mound). I've hated the Rays worse than I've hated the Yankees for a long time and this game was a reaffirmation of that. They're a dirty, gutless bunch with a perennial 'little brother' complex: the constant need to show how 'tough' they are, then whining about the injustice of it all when other teams react and then getting handily beaten when it counts. Thank god we won this game is all I can say.

 

In general I think the whole idea of hitting/throwing at people to prove a point is kind of stupid, but Workman shot way up on my list after the pitch to Longoria (I do believe it was intentional). At some point there just has to be a response, especially when the other team is essentially being permitted to go wild on you. It didn't so much bother me that he was ejected for that, but it just reaffirmed how ridiculous it was that Price got to remain in the game after all that happened.

 

It's also a bit of a stretch to suggest that the Red Sox 'had it coming' after last weekend. Escobar's steal of 3rd was certainly questionable, but the bigger issue was his subsequent mouthing off and challenging the whole dugout to a fight. If anything, I thought we still owed them one going into the game.

 

Who knows if this is the last of the fireworks this weekend, but let's not miss Longoria next time. And kudos to Farrell and Papi for not holding back in the post-game comments.
