Yeah but he could play SS and Xander could play 3B.. Doesn't matter how you slice it Drew is a huge upgrade over Roberts, Herrera and all these other guys we've been playing out there.

 

The Red Sox are not moving Bogaerts to 3B for Stephen Drew. Bogaerts would have to be awful defensively to justify that switch.

 

Drew is definitely an upgrade over Roberts and Herrera, but Roberts and Herrera won't be the 3B when Middlebrooks comes back. Paying Drew $10 million (at the minimum) to be better than Roberts and Herrera for 100-200 PA's is a waste of money. I have absolutely no idea what Boras and Drew want in the first place. The Red Sox offered him the QO and he turned that down. They offered him a depth role, and he didn't accept that either. There has to have been better offers from other teams. None managed to convince him to sign.

 

Maybe if Bogaerts gets hurt, Drew would be back on the table.

X had that beat, just a s***** slide....that lame effort would've had me on the bench back in the day. And, yeah, the pitch was low, but Nava just isn't on. He looks comfortable in the box, is taking the same approach, but he's just off. Had a couple pitches to hit today - and so has the team - but nothing to show. They just can't gauge this lefty 'cause he's been all over the place; he is hitting some corners....and the righties are having trouble with that late breaking pitch that cuts over the heart of the plate. Maybe it's the mid afternoon shadows.

Even with the assumption that Boras is 100% in control of Drew's destination, the Red Sox best offer would be a platoon at 3B, and occasionally spelling Bogaerts at SS. I doubt that it would be a lucrative offer. If he's willing to accept that, I would be on board with it.
