Lol let me see your crystal ball Jacko. He looked nice, but one start can't tell you anything. He played a weak blue jays team, relax.

Also, the Jays were 9th in the majors in runs and 4th in HR last yr. That isn't weak. He made them look weak

Tanaka 1-0 on the season. The first of many wins. Olney said he thinks he'll win 20. I hope he's right

Winning 20 in the AL East is very hard.

I'm looking at his stuff. He gave up 3 runs (2 earned) because his 2 seamer rode up. He got it down the last 5 innings and was untouchable. His splitter reminds me of Koji's. He has a sharp slider and a good slow curve. He looks like he can locate everything. That being said, maybe he was just on tonight, or maybe this is who he is. I don't know yet, but what I've seen thus far is very impressive. 92-94 with the fastball with a tail and a devastating splitter that he throws 87mph.

Agreed on all counts, except for his CB. It was pretty good tonight, but it has a long way to go. And the only time he can really throw it is early in the count, when he feels the batter is sitting FB and he's trying to steal a strike. Same sort of CB that CC and Kuroda have.

The pitch that might have some potential is his cutter. Would make a big difference if he can spot it consistently, like he did for his final strikeout tonight.

Sucks about Tex, although it looks like he avoided a major injury. Even if he has to go on the DL, it seems like it'll be a short stint.

I'd imagine that the alignment is pretty simple -- Johnson at first and Solarte at third.

Y228, I like the early count curveball. And yeah, it's not plus, but it is a big breaker. I loved the intelligence. He had the hitters guessing all night. And unlike DiceK, he can locate and give you innings. As long as he can stay healthy, I think we might have a good one

I don't know if Tex is done. Although he seems to spend a lot of time missing games.

I have noticed that he hardly ever does anything outstanding, especially against the Red Sox.

This makes me very glad that he decided to sign with the Yankees at the 12th hour. It is better for him to be a bust in New York than in Boston.

Plus he is ugly. Horseface.

The Yankees should have kept Swisher.

I don't know about 20 but overall it was a very solid first outing.

Right, they were also last place in the division with a 74-88 record, 25th in the league in pitching and 26th in fielding. This is a team that many people predicted to take the AL East. Seems like a weak team to me.

Tanaka wasn't facing their pitching staff

Tex is done. He was already in decline, but injuries bugs have hit him now.

So a mildly tweaked hamstring equals done? So, we should be sizing up a coffin for Victorino, too, right? The logic on this site is astounding these days

Victorino's injuries are bothersome to be sure.

However, unlike horseface, last year Victorino had a very productive season.

Tex hasn't done much in quite a while, has he?

I saw Pineda pitch in ST.

It was a very small sample against AA-AAAA batters.

He looked very good. I bet he has a good season. He'd better because the Yankees have questionable pitching quality and depth.

Pineda and Tanaka combined to go 13IP 11H 3ER 0BB 13K. That's a hell of a line against a good offense

Even though it makes me feel like I just had sex with Hitler, I have to agree with Jacko on this one. As far as these two games against the Jays, Pineda and Tanaka impressed. I don't think it's necessarily an indicator of incredible things to come, but it's not all that different than the game that Lester lost to open the season. He pitched well, he just got no offensive support.

Where my opinion diverges from Jacko's is that I think it's far more likely that the Red Sox lineup will provide that support on a regular basis moving forward. The only time the Yankees lineup will be whole is when they're all lined up outside of Hometown Buffet at 5PM.

Posted
So the Red Sox lineup is going to outperform by a lot or a little? Because right now, we have our #3 hitter hitting .158 and our #5 hitter 0 for the season. We are averaging 2.8 runs per game thus far and were only out of one game. Our pitching staff has held through one turn. We get our guys to perform like the backs of their baseball cards and we'll be alright.

I see, just ignore everything else. Pineda and Tanaka were impressive, just stop blowing your load everywhere. It's just one start, and like I said, you're facing a weak ass team overall. Beating the Blue Jays isn't saying much. Have them dominate the Red Sox or Tigers, then get back to me.

You just don't get it. He isn't facing their pitching staff. He faced the #9 offense in baseball from 2013 and dominated them. I don't give a s*** how bad the Jays rotation and pen are, he pitched against their offense. It is one game, but diminishing it by talking about their pitching is irrelevant

Oh I get it, your head is just so far up the Yankees ass, you'll never admit it. I mentioned the pitching, just to add in the fact they're not that good of a team overall. Actually, Blue Jays pitching does matter. You faced someone who hasn't played a game since 2011. You took advantage of it, and kicked his ass. Had it been Dickey playing last night, you probably would have lost even if Tanaka gave up only 3 runs. Also, I don't give a s*** how many home runs they hit last year. You know who was ranked number 2 in all of baseball in HR? The Seattle f***ing Mariners. Lets just agree to disagree on this one. I do think both Pineda and Tanaka will have good seasons. You just need to stop acting like beating the number 9th ranked team in offense makes them a god. It's literally just one start, and you already think Tanaka is a 20 game winner. Please stop it.

I am surprised you can figure out how to log online. Very carefully, I would like you to take off your helmet, take your meds and listen up. I am SOLELY talking about what Tanaka did in his start. And pitchers, in the game of baseball, face the opposing position players and not the pitching staff. I will also say that Pineda pitched very well against the same lineup. Yes, we lost today. That isn't on him. The pitching has done its job the last 2 games, whether you like to admit it or not. And no, I didn't say Tanaka is a 20 game winner, Buster Olney did, and I said that. If you want, we can go over the basics of how the games are played, but it might take some time.

No, I get exactly what you're saying. You want to talk about Tanaka pitching vs Toronto offense only. I am talking about the team overall. Tanaka could have thrown a no hitter, and no one really would have been surprised. The Blue Jays really aren't that good, even if they were ranked 9th in all of baseball in runs.
