WALTHAM, Mass. – The son of longtime Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy has been charged with fatally stabbing his girlfriend.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan says Jared Remy is scheduled to be arraigned Friday on murder and other charges in connection with the death Thursday of 27-year-old Jennifer Martel at a Waltham apartment complex.

Ryan said at a news conference that Remy and Martel were involved in a "romantic relationship."

Ryan says police responded to the Windsor Village complex at about 10 p.m. Thursday where they found Martel in an outdoor patio area suffering from multiple stab wounds.

A child in the apartment was unhurt and is now in the custody of state child welfare officials. Ryan says the child is Martel's but she was not sure if Remy was the father.

I'll note that he is merely charged. The burden of proof to charge someone is not high so I am withholding judgment.

From cancer, horrible pneumonia, and depression, this is certainly what remy did not need. Poor rem dawg.

His life away from baseball have to sucks. Not just Jared who has runs in with the law, so is his daughter.

I guess he won't be in the broadcast booth any time soon. What a nightmare.

I played against Remy's oldest son and he was a screwup too. He puts on a good face, but he was obviously a terrible father

I can see that. Outside of the booth he sounds like he's a pretty miserable man. He is good at his job. Not everyone can be a great dad.

Hernandez is also "merely charged."

... and people would do to remember that about Hernandez as well. It's an important point to bear in mind in the era of trial by media.

If the Zimmerman trial taught us anything, it's that public sentiment is the absolute worst indicator of actual guilt or innocence in the world.

Bad kids are not always the result of poor parenting. I have seen families that have a couple or three great kids that grow up to solid citizens and one bad kid that is incorrigible. Kids are born with different personalities and we can mold them only to a certain extent.

I have known some great people who have been put through hell by their kids problems. Jacko, control of kids is an illusion. I believe that dysfunctional parenting can ruin a child, but I have seen many people emerge from that situation and thrive. I think that it is far more difficult for a good parent to get a bad kid on a good track. Let's not condemn Jerry as a parent. We just don't know.

Very true. John Hinkley's mom lives in the same neighborhood as my parents. She used to play golf in a group with my mom. Her other 2 kids are normal.

It's convenient to blame the parents and a copout excuse for the kid. He is. Full-fledged adult man. He is fully responsible for his own miserable circumstances. My heart goes out to Remy, because as a father, I know that he must be in terrible pain right now and he must feel helpless.

I can't even begin to imagine. His son sounds like a roid-raging OJ.

It's good that your family tried to Foster good relations with their family, to let them know that no one blamed them.

Also, I hope all of you who are feeling sorry for Remy are also feeling sorry for the parents of the woman who was murdered.

Yes, of course.

Very good point.

What a worthless sack of subhuman s***. Hopefully he gets raped with a dustpan while he's locked up. Maybe one of the other prisoners could take his bloated, greasy head off with his bare hands, and punt it out of the prison yard and into a pile of horse manure.

If I was Jerry obviously I'd take a little bit of time (Eckersley's scheduled through the 25th), but I'd want back in the booth ASAP to keep busy. Baseball's probably just about the only good thing in his life. But I'm not Jerry so who knows.

Remy is not in the booth tonight. You guys get to hear Eck instead. I'm driving home from the Cape, so I get Joe Castig and Dave O.

The clown's mother sounds too stupid to be alive. I bet she thinks all 15 of those priors are conspiracies on the part of law enforcement. "No, not MY baby!! He would never!!"

What gets a chuckle out of me though is that this waste sounds a lot like the realistic end result of the alpha male theory that's all the rage in PUA communities, bodybuilding forums, and like places.

It's just a horrible story. Someone's young daughter got brutally murdered. The remy's have to live with the guilt and sorrow caused by their son. A baby is left without parents. It's just a horrible mess.

Just saw a picture of him. Christ, what a bruiser.

I saw some video of him today. First time I have ever seen him. Hate to say it but he looks like a poster child for steroid abuse.

I have grown grudgingly to begin to favor MLB making rules changes that would allow particular kinds of PED's for helping the injury healing process as long as it is regulated and as long as there is no evidence of long term health issues. Tons of money in baseball now. I can see the need to get your players back on the field ASAP as long as they are not going to pay for it in long term heath issues.

But looking at the Remy kid, another guy with what appears to be another blown up melon head and blown up melon body, scares the s*** out of me....not so much for myself but in part for that reason....but mainly because these guys are just walking around, amongst people that care about them without really dealing with the fact that they are sitting next to a ticking time bomb.

Additionally, what is it about us that creates this need in some people. Did the kid feel insufficient in the face of being the son of a one time professional athlete? Was there some other peer pressure? All I know is that we have people and companies that promote this s*** and that has got to stop. In addition it seems to me that we have to stop hoping that a kid like that is going to be able to just get out on bail and be fine.....why is he going to be fine? You arrested him all hopped up...you released him all hopped up and then you wonder why he ends up the late night slasher!!!!

I should have added how much looking at the Remy kid reminded me of how Bonds looked at one point....his bloated body not looking healthy or strong but more looking like a balloon character. To think that we let him sit there and tell us he was clean ballooned up like a cartoon character.
