Who is left out there? Britton, DLR? Not sure I am ready to trust Britton again against these guys. Maybe start with Taz and bring Britton if Taz struggles, like gets a base runner. Not sure I can go with DLR in a game I have to have.

Taz and Ueh are not going to make it through the reg season doing this though. I guess Farrell has not choice right now but these guys are going to flame out.

Farrell might get away with this by the skin of his teeth

True. Its crazy how much different looking our bull pen looks from day one. Plus, even the guy who we got to help us got injured.

Britton f***ed Farrell right in the ass just when he was gaining some confidence in him. Workman is suffering from youth, jitters and brain lock. DLR just got through kindergarden and is trying to get through the first grade of ML pitching. Tough spot for Farrell right now.

Ya. Its really just taz, breslow, and uehara we can trust.

Just checked the game logs for Tazawa. It's not nearly as bad as you might think. Tonight was his 6th appearance in the last 2 weeks. That covers 8.2 innings. But the big thing is, thanks to his efficiency, he's only thrown 84 pitches over those 8.2 innings.

I was just checking back at clay's awesome stats this year. Didnt let up a single earned run in 4 of his 12 starts. Plus, let up 2 runs or less in all of his games cept one where he allowed four. Really missing that.

I don't think Taz can go many of these 20 pitch stints though. Farrell is getting addicted to using him two innings at a time and he is going to paint himself into a corner sooner or later. In fact he already did paint himself into a corner with Taz before the ASB and that is my real problem. Once a guy has flamed out once in a season, he can regain some energy but the next time around in the same season he will flame out much faster and often very suddenly.

While I'm frustrated with the previous two games, Baltimore and Tampa both lost today and hadn't been doing well in their series so we're still doing well. We have Lackey tomorrow vs. Shields and then we're out of KC.

Now we gotta' find a way to beat s*** head Shields and we escape 2-2. I will take it and have my bags packed to get the hell outta' here!

Oh I know what you're saying. But on a night like this, what the hell else is Farrell supposed to do. You have to nail down a game like this. And let's face it, if he did something other than use Tazawa for 2 innings, our chances for winning this game would have dipped significantly.

Britton and Workman are both young guys. One or two bad outings from either of them isn't the end of the world. That being said, Workman pitched a monster 5th inning today.

According to a sabermetric function, the sox have a 92.5 percent chance of making the playoffs and are expected to end the season with 97 wins.

The trick is to play .500 on the road and kick ass at home. So far they're ahead of the curve. They need a split tomorrow. Middlebrooks gave them a boost tonite with a couple RBIs.

Correct...I said so earlier...he had no choice IMO tonight. But that is how Managers eventually get caught with a guy that has the fuel tank go empty on him right out there on the mound like it did for Paps in 2011.

I find it very intereting at how awesome breslow, tazawa, and koji have been. Koji has the best era among al qualified relievers and breslow and tazawa are also within the top 16 in the al for reliever era.

I mean when the sox traded breslow for albers last year, I thought that it was pretty much just a kind of even swap, as albers absolutely dominated for us last year. But now, since bres is pitching better than albers now, im really liking that trade.
