Runs scored vs...

RH'd starters: 370 in 70 games or 5.29 runs per start

LH'd starters: 149 in 33 games or 4.52 runs per start

while 0.77 is a significant differential, 4.5+ runs scored per game is a very decent number in MLB. It's official.the Sox can't hit lefties. Plus two lefthand batters who are not too bad ( Ellsbury-.268 and Ortiz-.267). And Victornio ( switch hitter) whoIs decent at .266. Surely it's not such a slow day that you can't do better than this.

In all honesty, it's surprising how some of these guys are playing so poorly against LHP. Gomes was brought in specifically to hit lefties. Nava and Salty have always struggled against lefties so that's not a shocker. Clearly Ortiz has been worse in the past against lefties, but this production is a decline from last year.

Too bad WMB tanked this year. He could have been a huge difference maker. Also, the loss of Ross is bigger than most people realize.

On a related note -- Ross has been cleared to play, and is expecting to return to the Sox in August when his 60-Day DL trip is up.

Perhaps that is why 700hitter has been talking up getting a strong RH bat during the trade deadline. Those stats are going to get around if they haven't already and we could wind up seeing other teams saving their southpaws for us. And BTW, Drew and Salty should never be in the lineup when an opposing lefty is on the mound. The negative evidence for that is overwhelming and if you watch them on your TV or on the computer screen their ineptness against southpaws is pathetic.
