Major League Baseball has suspended Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun without pay for the remainder of the 2013 season.

Braun will not contest the suspension which was meted out for "violations of the Basic Agreement and its Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program," according to a statement released by MLB.

"As I have acknowledged in the past, I am not perfect," Braun said in the statement. "I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions. This situation has taken a toll on me and my entire family, and it is has been a distraction to my teammates and the Brewers organization.

"I am very grateful for the support I have received from players, ownership and the fans in Milwaukee and around the country. Finally, I wish to apologize to anyone I may have disappointed -- all of the baseball fans especially those in Milwaukee, the great Brewers organization, and my teammates. I am glad to have this matter behind me once and for all, and I cannot wait to get back to the game I love."

The suspension totals the final 65 games of the Brewers' season and any potential postseason games this year.

Yeah you've been banging that drum for over a month and nothing's happened.

Well there you go. I'm glad they got him, lots of players cheat but not all of them are as big a scumbag as Braun was when they get caught.

He could've appealed and taken it into next year though. He was smart to take the deal they offered him for only 65 games instead of at least 100.

Also, notice the quoted post was over a month ago, so: "You had to beat that drum for over two months before something happened"

I'm not so sure A-Rod will take a deal. It would be best for the team because the Yankees aren't going anywhere this year. But I have a feeling A-Rod will do whatever makes him the most money. If he's suspended he doesn't get paid so I think he'll pretend he's hurt indefinitely and unable to play. He can't be suspended if he's not active.

Yeah. I guess I should hope the NYY get screwed more so then ARod. It's hard because he's so unlikeable. Fk the NYY and ARod.

If Rodriguez retires before MLB can suspend him, citing injuries that render him physically unable to perform, he’s entitled to collect the remaining 86$ mill on his contract.

Under such a scenario, the Yanks would be covered for the bulk of A-Rod’s contract through an insurance policy too.

Right, which explains why Cashman was so upset when A-Rod said he was healthy. It's probably also worth noting that lying and saying he's more hurt than he is in order to get his salary and save the Yankees money would be insurance fraud - which is illegal.

I have a hard time believing any insurance company covered that second contract. I'm sure it's not at 100%.

It was reported that 80% of A-Rod's contract is covered. However, he was a day away from coming off the DL, so I doubt he's hurt enough to retire. And no insurance company will pay out easily if they think he's faking. A-Rod and the Yankees could get in serious trouble if they're committing insurance fraud.
