6'6" LHP FB is 93+ FB and he's only 180 pounds right now. He could be a beast when he fills out. I like the pick.

and there goes my prediction. This doesn't make sense to me at all. They need guys who could become superstars, not guys who look to be above average players

What else is new? ;)

He was most likely the next P drafted anyways. Meadows may have been down on their board since he's an OF and the Sox seem to have a lot of those. Can't go wrong with a big LHP with upside.

I'll try to find the article but I've read a couple Kershaw comparisons for Ball

JFC does Bud not know what year it is? He's said 2013 draft once and said 2000 every other time.

High school lefty, throwing 91-94 at age 18. 6'6'', and only 190 pounds, so he projects to add velocity. Has an advanced curveball for his age. Comitted to Texas, and they haven't traditionally been a college that it's difficult to pull people away from.

Ball is a project who could be a high end starter. I am surprised the sox went this route. He's a top 15 talent with a lot of mocks having him in the middle of the round. Regardless, giant lefties with power and projection go high. This is a good pick

Due date at Fenway in the Sox rotation-- 2017.

He should retire NOW!

Ball's a high upside guy and he should be an under slot guy at 7. He's not a guy I'm crazy about because it's going to be a while before we know if he'll turn out to be anything useful, but it makes sense.

He's high risk, high reward. Those are the kind of guys you go draft when your system is strong

I am hoping for a few more s*** picks like the Royals just made. That will lift more talent into the Yankee range

I wouldn't be celebrating, the Royals get the first comp pick and they have tons of money to spend now. They're going to take someone like Manaea.

Let them. We've got a pick before that

Also, SR, do you really think he wont be asking for full slot? This isn't a college guy like they drafted last yr in Johnson and Marrero

Ball? He's not a college guy without leverage, but he was expected to sign for slot at 10-15 so he should go below slot at 7. At the very least, he should be a slam dunk to sign for slot money at 7.

He definitely should be a slam dunk to sign for slot, I'll agree there. But as a HSer, he has leverage to ask for the full slot amount.

I wonder if since this draft was considered a pretty weak class, if the Sox risk trying to get Ball under slot and at worst, punt the high pick to a year with a better draft class.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. I think they'll probably work something out though.

That is what I was thinking as well. Get a high end talent on the cheap or go with a bigger pick next yr. I think if Moran had fallen, that wouldn't be the case as they'd sign him cheaply and get an above average guy and move more money later on

Anderson went to the White Sox. s***! The good SS prospects are drying up!

You're better off signing international prospects for shortstop. The position is so weak, anyone with any talent goes off the board early in a draft atmosphere.
