I am thinking Gomes will no longer be the platoon LFer but will end up being something between a platoon LFer and an emergency LFer. He is scary out there...makes C. Ross look like GG material.

Mortensen is probably the most underrated player on this team. He's been 3-4 ERA inning reliever the last few years, and just hasn't seen much playing time despite being on four different teams in the last few years.

He kind of reminds me of what Aceves used to be. You know, before he turned into mediocre (at best) jackass.

I am scared though, of what will happen when the Red Sox have to start using Gomes in LF.

I understand your concern. But scared? Why? Don't see it happening anytime soon.

I don't think Mortensen is as versatile as Ace was at his best but he is probably as good a long reliever as Ace was at his best. Mortensen has an outing now and again where it takes him about three batters to get settled in and those three batters can sometimes be nightmarish.

Oh, just about his defense out there. We've been fortunate to have Bradley in there defensively so far.

True, but you also don't have to worry about running into Mortensen in a dark alley.

Aceves was actually pitching in tight games. Mortensen is a white flag.

Ace's 2011 set a standard for relief pitchers than Ace himself has not been able to approach again. I don't think he ever will. I think Fingers had a year like that before he became a closer and I think Eck had one similar as well. That 2011 set an impossible standard. Both Ace and we would probably be happy if he could give us half of that year again...without the drama and without the threat of getting your team into a bench brawl with half of them landing in the hospital.

Wilson tips the ball up to Ciricao, who hits the bag, and flings it to Napoli who just barely stays on the base. Very ugly, very good play!

Probably safe at first. Close enough. I'll take it!

Glass half empty. :D

Half empty? That's like the glass is broken and I swallowed broken glass and it cut an internal organ.

C'mon Jung. We're winning. Smile buddy!

The Indian terrible bp shutting this team down.

I was thinking the same thing (except for the "terrible" part, because I don't know the first thing about the Cleveland bullpen). I don't know whether to hope they're just loafing up there (not a good show of character) or actually overmatched by these relief pitchers (not a good show of, uh, baseball).

I have tried to be selective in my criticism of the home plate umps but UN has been closer to right than I have been.....they have been pretty terrible as a group. The good ball and strike umps are so rare now that they stand out like sore thumbs. The other umps probably hate them.

It might be interesting to see if they get better once the % of night games goes up. Day games can be tough on hitters and tough on home plate umps for the same reason.
