If he was going there in his prime and was going to terrorize the Sox for the next 5 years I'd care more. He's trying to showcase himself for that last multi year deal and NY he will get that chance.

As far as making the Yankees better? Meh. He was a shell of his formal self last season. He will be a nice role player for them.

Gonna be strange see him on Yankee uniform at Fenway. I wonder how the fans are going to react when he's at plate... like last year?

He and A-rod are very similar players-- Past their prime third-basemen with bad hips, legs and knees, who probably should be at first base or DHing.

That being said, I wish him the best. This organization did him no favors, but as a fanbase, we should cheer him anyway.

Jacko's spin should be very interesting on this matter.

I liked Youk for most of the time he was in Boston. I did have a problem with his attitude in Spring Training. He was signing autographs after practice and was complaining verbally. It was definitely not something little fans should have experienced. He was getting mad that people were calling his name and was having an attitude. After that, I lost some respect for the guy. I heard one little kid specifically say, "he is grumpy. He is not my favorite player anymore." He does make the effort to usually sign autographs after practice, but if you are going to get angry doing so, then don't waste your time if it is that big of a deal.

All of last year I was not a big Youk fan. I understand that he was a favorite player of several people, but you have to realize the circumstances. He was offered 12 million by the Yankees for one year. The next best offer was from the Guardians for 2 years at 18 million. The Guardians signed Mark Reynolds, so Youk was probably not going to be able to sign in Cleveland. The White Sox paid him 1 million to buy out the team option for 2013. He still is making all of his 13 million now for 2013, with the 1 million buyout and the 12 million contract. I give his agent a lot of credit. This game is a business and he took the best contract available. It sucks that he is going to be on a rival team, but from a business standpoint he made the right choice. The one year contract can give him a chance to build some value for the FA market for 2014. I could really care less about him going to the Yankees. It just gives me a reason to not like the guy presently, even though I respect him from his time he played in Boston.

These are my exact sentiments on the subject.

On a different note, I ran into a guy today at IKEA who noticed my Red Sox cap and started talking to me...He said he was a Yankees fan and named his daughter 'Jeter'

Youks is in decline. They'll need to platoon him at 3B. Nobody else would give him $12 mil. They aren't getting the player of a few years ago. You wonder if the Yankees aren't in decline as well.

I think considering the alternatives, Youk is the best available player for the role. I'm not crazy about him either, as he has always been that player that I loved to hate. But I'm sure he'll bring that same grit and passion to the Bronx, and hopefully I enjoy rooting for him this year as much as I enjoyed rooting against him in years past. Here's to hoping he has a huge year!

How is this a bad thing for the Yankees? Who was their in house candidate to play 3b while ARod was out? They have kids with promise, but if Youk is healthy, he's a good player. I think the days of .900+OPS are over, but can he be an .800OPS guy while splitting time between 3B and DH? Maybe, maybe not. But he at least can replace the patience lost by Swisher while still having a spot for him when ARod comes back. If he sucks ass, then he's on a 1 yr deal and is replaceable. If he's great, then we get 1 great yr and the possibility of a draft pick if he declines a QO. If he's in the middle, we get a serviceable replacement for ARod

Seeing Youkilis in a Yankee uniform will be a constant reminder of the carnage that was Bobby Valentine.

Good for Youk, if I were there, Id cheer him. He deserved better.

So he's had one mediocre year and he's officially "done?"

Come on guys, let's not be quite that naive. A bounceback year from Youk was more than possible.

Youk is 34, not 90. I would NOT count on him not managing to come back to hurt us.

I somehow knew this would happen at some point. I hate it.

That's funny, I always kinda had a feeling we'd see Youk in pinstripes, as well.

And it will be tough to forget too. I had pretty much managed to let go of him when he left though....it's going to be weird seeing him in pinstripes, but I won't hate him for it. Just hope he doesn't do good against us.

Well this is just unfortunate. It's not like it's a big deal though. Youk is an aging infielder who's had injury issues the past couple of years and belongs more at 1st than 3rd.

I'm guessing it will look similar to the pinstripes he wore last summer.

People really need to get over this. No one wanted him around anymore. He's in decline. His body was never going to age well. His best hope of a healthy season was going back to 1B. Boston got the best years of his career. Let the Yanks have the scraps.

This is a business/livelihood for them, he's not going to care he's in a Yankees uniform because their checks cash just like Boston's.

I pretty much thought the same things when Boggs went to the Yanks. He'd just come off a terrible season with the Sox. Then I had to watch him ride that damn horse at Yankee Stadium. I'll never forget that.

Boggs was exactly the guy I thought about too, and for the same reasons. Youk wasn't quite the pure hitter Boggs was, but he spent a few years as one of the best offensive players in the AL.

Youk is not a toolsy guy who relies on his athletic talent to hit the ball, he's a smart, disciplined hitter who knows as well as anyone in this league how to adjust.. If he can get healthy at all, he's got a very good chance to bounce back to somewhere near his 2010 levels. I hated the decision to move him on with no real replacement in sight and I hate this. He could easilt have another 4 good years in him with the way he hits..
