The Red Sox agreed to a one-year deal with reliever Koji Uehara, according to Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News. The deal has a $4.25MM base salary, tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Uehara is represented by SFX.

Good deal i say he was strong with Rangers last year even though his outings were not alwys in a pressure situation so that will get tested.

This was a good signing.

The first good signing Cherington has made this off-season.

The bullpen is strong, but Uehara came at a good price and is a good pitcher.

Napoli?

Napoli wasn't a bad signing. I'm just not a big fan. I don't like guys coming off seasons where they just hit .227. Makes me nervous.

Uehara only pitched 39 innings between AAA and the Majors... Where was he the rest of the season?

He was hurt.

Maad props for the Billy Mueller pic.

well I agree and disagree with you, Napoli even though its short years i do agree he shouldnt have gotten anything more than 36 mill. same with Victorino.

but Victorino is going to be a big upgrade for us in defense if he is going to play Cody Ross's position. and Gomes bat will give us the production..

I am optimistic right now but I am really hoping we get another solid pitching arm.. need to trade Salty Jacoby to get a solid arm..

If we assume Morales to the rotation, a good bullpen acquisition might be something that helps the rotation. Morales has always had ace potential, and he put up some good starts last year. If people aren't overwhelmed by the remaining FA options Morales is a decent bet. So if the plan is to bring Uehara in to pitch Morales' innings while he moves up into the rotation, I'm down with that.

No he is not a good option. Two starts and 8 homers surrendered to the Yankees.

We are projecting him based on 8 or 9 innings against one team?

Probably based on the fact that his career high in innings is 76.1.

He's just not very good. He has never pitched 100 innings in a season, and he was terrible against good teams. He's a good depth option, but I am not going to plug him into the rotation.

Uehara was a very underrated, but absolutely fantastic pick up. He really, really helps the back end of this bullpen.

This pen has the chance to be elite elite.

Bailey/Bard/Aceves/Tazawa/Uehara/Breslow/Miller

If Bard can find his 2011 form, and Aceves gets locked back into his proper role, this could be the best pen in the league. And if one of them can't get it done, you've got 100 mph De La Rosa sitting in your back pocket.

Side note - One of the most incredible stats I've ever seen - Over the past 3 years (145 IP), Uehara has a 10.76 K:BB ratio.

Try to fathom that. It's almost impossible. 11.4 K/9, 1.1 BB/9.

9.82 career aint that bad either.. cant wait for some young guns like DeLa Rosa Webster and Sands to play ...

i hope that Bard turns it around too, but i am not counting on it.. Farrell has a big job to get him and Lester back to what they used to be.. really hoping he gets it done.

If Bailey can come back to his form in Oakland then the closer spot is set

Ive said time & time again Brian Wilson needs to come in here on a 2 year deal 16 million woould prolly get him... (AAV is high for a pitcher coming off his 2nd TJ but the $ talks &u to get him away from CA is gonna take a high AAV)

Agreed our bullpen as it sits now is one of the best if not the best top to bottom in baseball but if our starting rotation doesnt get some help and allow them to got into the late innings & the bullpen gets over worked early in the year it would be no fault of the bullpens arms to fatigue over the course of the year it would be the FO fault for not gting them any help.

This definitely was some of the reason the bullpen went downhill last year. They got things sorted out after that first month or so and pitched pretty good in actuality. Then they were stuck pitching 6 innings a game all year and it seems like it just killed them (there are a few cases of guys who were just bad too, but yeah). The fact that the Sox bullpen could be this good, assuming everyone pitches to potential, is kind of exciting. It feels like its been a long time since other teams would be a little nervous facing us in extra innings.

Yeah, its crazy. I read a statistic today-- Uehara has the best K:BB ratio of any player with 100+ innings. All time.

I think I just heard a snake. It said "SSS." Nothing else. Just "SSS."
