I understand Bailey wasn't available today as he worked 4 out of the last 5 days. The issue stems back to yesterday. If Bailey has been used so much, why have him start an inning with a four run lead against KC? Another pitcher should've been able to close that out, and then you can go to Bailey for the 1 run lead the next night.

In point of actual fact, Ace is one of the few players left now that the trade has happened that insists on playing the game his own way....f*** stats...f*** baseball tradition..f*** coaching...f*** his teammates....f*** his record of failure late in games insisting on pitching like this....he just does not care.

I would not care how short my pen would be......I would sit Aces dumb f***ing ass for the rest of the season...done and dusted s***-head.

Fuming here... it's now after 6 in the morning here, and I stayed up just to see us get the road trip off to a winning start... only for that to happen. Steamin'... Off to my bed. Night, all.

Eh...the overhyped Angels probably won't qualify for the WC either anyway. They're too inconsistent. They'd have to jump about 2 or 3 teams from the A's, Orioles, Rays, and Tigers.....

Good point...in fact that is why I thought sure we would see Bailey tonight. You only use him in that KC game if you are not going to use him up....why...well just look at Aces record in games where he had to pitch both the 8th and the 9th. You would not leave yourself in that situation if your life depended on it. I can only hope that V does not have to get hit over the head with a sledge hammer to see what is what.

Second highest scoring team in baseball, 13.5 games out of first, and 6 under .500. Horrible.

That's what horrible starting pitching and a "closer" like Aceves will do for you....

For those interested in seeing him gone, I think Ace likely sealed his fate right there. How do you bring him back to this clubhouse after he goes nuts on his manager, gets suspended and then comes out and pitches like the turd he is. I don't think you can bring him back to this clubhouse.

I was serious....if it were me he would have pitched his last for 2012.

by WPA metric, Aceves has cost the Red Sox 10 games on the season.

nonononononononno

Papelbon was overpaid and overrated, remember?

8 Blown Saves now.

I will say this much about Aces closing career...he did not start the season doing this...he did not start well but he was often overthrowing and you could see that he had just not found a rhythm for closing successfully. He really did not know how to do it. Once he found that rhythm he had his best outings closing. Then he got into this mode where he is now....where he does not pitch with his head but instead pitches with his balls. I refuse to believe that he got through all those innings last year pitching with his balls. He used the variety of pitches to work and pitched tough and with courage.

At some point maybe two months ago, which is also when V started using him more in the 8th and 9th innings, he stopped pitching with his head and really started pitching with his balls. That does not mean he was pitching with courage....just the opposite. When you give up thinking on the mound, and just groove the ball insistent that you are going to throw it by the hitter knowing you are losing steam the whole way, you have surrendered....you have given up. Do not confuse pitching with your balls with pitching with courage.

That is why I am disappointed in this guy. He has proven to be a schoolyard bully and like most schoolyard bully's when he has met up with something or somebody tougher than he is, he has just given up.

It was so incredibly obvious that Ace was going to do exactly what he did tonight. That is why I posted that "watch this" post. I am sure a bunch of you were thinking the same thing.

If the Sox are attempting to reset this thing then Aceves suspension had to happen. If the rules don't apply to everyone from your stars to number 25 on the roster you are asking for problems. The whole Manny saga should have shown us that. When it did blow up it wasn't pretty. From what I read BV had a short bullpen last night and used Aceves for the two innings. Aceves hasn't had it lately and BV has to make the switch to Bailey. Bailey still has to prove he can close in Boston.

You see the thing is, he's not suppose to be our closer. Papelbon did not deserve that big of a contract, stop it.
Going forward, they have to decide whether they can count on the injury-prone Bailey to be the closer. This is what the end of games look like when you don't have a good back of the bullpen. We had a great on for 3 years and it spoiled us. We let our closer walk and we converted our 8th inning guy into a starter and ruined his career. People convinced themselves that anyone could fill those roles. We have one of the worst kate inning pens in baseball. I knew the late innings would be a horror show this year. I am not willing to put all my closer eggs into Bailey who has pitched more than 40 innings only once or twice. They have a ton of freed up money now, so they should shore up the pen with a solid late inning guy or another closer.

It's water under the bridge, but the late inning pen from last year would at least have this team in a competitve positiion this year. Meaningless games starting in August suck.

I'm not either but that wasn't my point. Don't start s***ing on Aceves that's playingg a role he shouldn't be in. We all know paps was good but I'm sorry for that amount of money he was making it wouldn't be worth it, besides most poster here are against throwing big money out to players.

Where in my post did I argue about throwing big money at players? As to your point about Aceves being in a role that he shouldn't be in, I am not sure that I understand your point. Aceves did not want to be a middle reliever this year. He wanted to start, because middle relievers don't make a lot of money--- starters and closers make money. He missed out on being a starter out of spring training and he was very upset. He wanted and embraced the closer role. Unfortunately, he sucks at, so yeah we can s*** on him, especially with his egotistical attitude. The FO should have had a better back up plan for the injury-prone Bailey. They should be s*** on too.

Zach Stewart pitches for the Red Sox tonight. He announced his game plan-- to throw strikes early, not do too much and let the hitters get themselves out. If the Angels heard the interview, they will be aggressively swinging early in the count. I have never seen this guy pitch, but I will be surprised if he makes it past the 4th inning.

That last part was in general, not directly stated towards you. And I was letting you know my point to SCM because you quoted my post towards him. I absolutely agree on the backup plan for Bailey.

Are you hearing or reading anything in your local media about the Marlins lokking to move Reyes? They seem to be in salary dump mode. He'd be a nice pickup for the Sox. Also, I have read that they are looking to dump Buehrle. He is very consistent and reliable.
