Agreed. Just saying that you can't look solely at FIP and say a pitcher is getting screwed.

There is no single statistic that accurately defines how well a pitcher is pitching. IMO the single best stat is ERA; there is a good arguement for ERA+ as well. WHIP and K/BB ratio are also important. The others IMO are of secondary importance.

ERA is overrated, dude. It's that simple. I put more stake in WHIP and K/BB ratio than I do ERA.

Well, it depends on what you want to analyze, but yes, I agree with you.

The rest of his numbers say that as well. I just dont feel like posting all of them from an iPhone. Most of his numbers aside from line drive rate are right where they should be or approaching that. He's had s*** luck. I expect things to improve because that's what the numbers are saying.

Sorry. Lester has SUCKED. It has nothing to do with luck. He has thrown too many fat pitches and lacks a real out pitch. His ERA is nearly 5. He might improve, but so far this season, he has struggled.

Overall performance.

Baseball is a simple game. The only thing that matters is how many runs you score and how many runs you allow. You score more than you allow and chances are you have a winning record. How do you measure runs allowed by a pitcher? ERA. Thats why I like ERA as the best single measure of performance. ERA+ which takes into account the park you play in is also a decent stat, but good pitchers pitch well anywhere, and even the best pitchers pitch half their games on the road.

We will never settle this here.

I'm done trying to explain this to you. Just please, go to fangraphs or bbref and do yourself a favor. I never said he hasn't struggled. He has but he hasn't been so bad as to warrant giving up 4.5 runs a game.

i have to agree, and someone on the staff needs to tell Lester to dial it down a notch. he really looks angry all the time. it so not him..

I don't need your explanations. You will not convince me that you are right, nor do I expect to convince you that I am right. Each to his own. Lets just leave it at that.

And Beckett has been our best starter! So meaningful

He has. As much as you may and everyone else might hate his ******* attitude and his texasness, he's been our #1 and he's pitched just like that moniker dictates he should except for 2 starts. 2 starts out of 12 with circumstances behind those starts suggesting that they are outliers. Josh is the guy who shut down Tampa over 8 innings in the home opener, the guy who held Texas to 3 over 7 one night after they put up 18, the guy who outdueled cliff lee on his own turf, and who went pitch for pitch with David Price during our last series against Tampa.

Josh has been our best starter this year and one of the better ones in baseball, just because you think he's an ******* doesn't change that.

Yup. Sometimes, some fans try to complicate it more than it really is.

You get way too caught up in stats. Sometimes stats don’t tell the whole story. Beckett started off bad. That explains the average ERA. But, he has turned it around and is dominating of late. The last bad outing he had was against Cleveland.

Coming off an injury and like a 10 day lay off. Thank you for being rational, native. You make me happy.

38 K's, 5 BB's, 3 HR in his last 6 starts. 4.24 ERA.

That doesn't add up.

Plain and simple, he's throwing much, much better than his ERA would suggest.

It took me a while too, but ERA is not a good indicator of how a pitcher has thrown. Far too many outside factors.

The things that Lester CAN control, K's, Walks, and HR's, he's limiting. He can't control it when bleeders get through or broken bat flares turn into RBI's.

Dinners Owed By BornToRun

Great day! A big Red Sox win on my anniversary that is over well in advance of dinner time, so I will not miss a thing by going to our celebratory dinner. Also, got the news that Yankees Sabathia and Pettitte are both on the DL. What a day!
