Unfortunately, they have to get Youk outta' here. In an odd sort of way, Youk forcing their hand is not the best way for him to handle this but it is what it is.

If I were Youk I would not be talkin' about what was said to him and what was not said to him and when etc etc.

Youk is on pretty thin ice right now. He is living by the slim thread of teams assuming he can benefit from a change of scenery when in fact it is just as likely that he is very close to just being done certainly as an everyday ballplayer.

So if you are no longer an everyday ballplayer what are you? How much do you really think you are going to make as an ex-everyday ballplayer that wants to be treated like he is still in the starting lineup? How much tolerance should teams have for a guy that is going to spout off every once and awhile because he feels slighted.

Youk really does not owe the Sox anything but he does owe it to himself and his current employers to sort of get where he really fits in the baseball world he finds himself in and frankly that spot is not one where he has much of a platform to spout off from.

The thing is, I think the White Sox and Guardians are going to let this one fester for another week or two to see if the sox demands drop a little. My guess is the sox will deal him for a AAAA player and have the receiving team eat the contract

Kevin Youkilis Rumors: Sunday

By Zach Links [June 24 at 10:02am CST]

The trade chatter surrounding Kevin Youkilis picked up a ton of steam yesterday as the White Sox, Pirates, Guardians, and Dodgers all seem to have interest in the third baseman. As of late last night, it appeared that the White Sox were the frontrunner for the veteran with Pittsburgh in second. Here's the latest on Youkilis with the most recent news up top..

•Youkilis is in today's lineup and a team source tells Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe (via Twitter) that it's not indicative of one thing or another and a trade remains still in play.

•The White Sox, Dodgers, and Guardians are likely going to be amongst the final five teams for Youkilis, tweets Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

•The White Sox’s pursuit of Youkilis is more advanced than any other club’s and could be approaching the final stages, a major league source tells Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Sources say Boston is willing to include about $5MM of the nearly $8MM remaining on Youkilis’ contract in the trade. As of late last night, the Guardians appeared to be a “longshot,” the Dodgers’ talks

I hope he goes to the NL so I can continue to root for him.

That would be ideal, but at this point if an AL team offers us the better deal, then we should take it (as long as it is a team not in the AL East). I would be fine with him going to the White Sox. I think we only play the White Sox four more times this year, so that is really a non factor if we trade him there.

What do you think their demands are now? I was guessing 1 or 2 decent prospects, nothing special. He's not worth that much.

From Peter Abraham in today's Globe:

The White Sox, Guardians and Dodgers remain in the mix for Youkilis with another team — as yet unknown — also involved.

In the latest twist, the third baseman's brother has taken to Twitter to criticize Valentine and the city of Boston.

"Love that ‪#teamyouk‬ may be changing sox real soon. ‪#Chicago‬ is better town anyways!" wrote Scott Youkilis, a restaurant owner in San Francisco.

He also wrote, "Bobby V is a joke."

f*** that *******. Not the team's fault that his bro is a whiny little bitch that can't take two steps without breaking his hip and popping a testicle.

Of course the inevitable tearing down of Youk will come from the press before he has both feet out of the Red Sox locker room.

Well, from the looks of it, he's being kind of an *******. He doesn't deserve to get crucified by let's not treat him like the innocent angel being oppressed by the big bad management.

The young guys have said that he has been very helpful to them. Kalish looks to him as a friend and mentor.

Youks has a history of being a irritable jerk. It was tolerable when he was producing but right now there are reports that he's unhappy and given his past reputation, I'm inclined to think there might be some truth to them despite my inherent distrust of the media. It's becoming a distraction and he needs to go.

Cued right on time as usual. Glad he got a nice ovation from the fans during his first at bat.

According to all the insiders a Youkilis trade is just a matter of time now' date=' and not much time either.[/quote']

Like butt kisser Peter Gammons for instance? The guy who said Middlebrooks should be benched or sent down and Youkilis made the permanent third baseman? That guy?

Youk is not going to be traded anytime soon. Leave it to Pukington to botch up any trade that might come up or Prune Face deciding he doesn't want to eat any part of that 2012 salary owed Kevin. This has all the making of a total clusterf***. So Bellhorn, try not to play the party line this time out, ok? Yesterday they said the trade might go down then but it didn't and it hasn't gone down today either and it won't go down tomorrow. A lot has to happen before it does---like Henry eating some of the contract, like Cherington pulling the trigger and not sniffling away because of his being risk averse, a team willing to trade for Youkilis and the Red Sox willing to lower their asking price for the guy. All these reasons could add up to nothing happening. I hope I am wrong but right now I cannot think of an team in baseball that is run more inefficiently than ours is.

Did you watch the baseball show on FOX yesterday? All the people there agreed completely that our team is a dysfunctional one and it all starts at the top with your beloved Prune Face.

Give 'em hell BTR!!!!!! Well said! For Kevin's sake I hope he does get traded and does fine, but more for Middlebrooks not having to look over his shoulder for the possibility that once again Valentine will lose the nerve I thought he had and start trying to make everyone happy by rotating the players and in fact making no one happy and making himself look like a total fool. This is a main opportunity for Bobby to finally take control and stop being an errand boy as FrancoMa was.

I doubt the media has accurately presented the internal Red Sox situation. The trouble is, the media is a like a school of sharks: once they smell blood they move in quickly for the kill--in bunches.

Yeah, no thanks.....way too much value for a 33 year old injury prone backup corner-infielder who cant hit anymore and makes 14M a year.

We would be LUCKY to get such a good player in return for the corpse that Youkilis has turned in to.

'Fraid so, at this point. They still haven't done the deal.

If the fans buy into the stories about Youk being an ******* who eats babies in the clubhouse, they can still feel good about the trade if we get a Mortensen equivalent and Youk OPS's .900+ for some other team.

Do you not think they should trade Youk?

If he went to management and asked for a trade, I'd try to trade him. If he didn't and he's not being a distraction, I'd rather have him as insurance on my bench as opposed to getting some spare BP piece or a second tier prospect. What's the rush? They are going to pay his salary anyway.

We can shed a bit of salary and get some value for a 33 year old past his prime injury plagued third basemen who's created a logjam with a better player at the same position. It'd be one thing if he were hitting and it wasnt such a distraction but the fact is he isn't hitting and its a distraction. If we can get something for him and avoid paying the whole of what left of his salary, we have to do it.

Plus, we are going to get almost no salary relief. The Sox are offering to eat almost all of his salary. As a fan, I could give a s*** about salary relief in mid season. I just don't see the rush. They are playing winning ball, so I don't think he is being much of a distraction. I'd rather have an old Youk coming up to PH than f***ing Pinto. There's no rush if we aren't going to get anything for him.

I think the chances of us getting some relief and a bit of value for him are higher than him being a productive part of this team at this point. He's gotta go.

If the FO saves $2 million in salary on him, what does that do for the team on the field?

Gets rid of an aging' date=' injury riddled, past his prime player and we could actually get something for him.[/quote']It remains to be seen what we can get for him.
