So we've got former ESPN analyst/current Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine in the house of former Red Sox GM/current Cubs President Theo Epstein, featuring commentary from former Red Sox manager/current ESPN analyst Terry Francona. This would only be better if Schilling and Nomar were the co-anchors.

Okay why is Beckett on the DL?
Princess and the pea syndrome again. He pulls this stuff when he gets within 2 years of the end of a contract, because he doesn't want to endanger his next contract. He's a real gamer.

I think we will be thanking our lucky stars big time if it turns out to be a precautionary stint for Beckett.

I would not think that Inflammation is both the cause and the effect and that has got me really worried. It might still be something that Beckett can live with for a season but an overused part that shows signs of its overuse is a worn part if we are hoping Josh has just overused the shoulder some.

The way the modern baseball player (other than Pedey who may in fact be the very description of a throwback) handles injury, this could easily be an issue that causes Beckett to miss more starts this year.

While Bard's less than satisfying stint in the rotation is not really a disaster or a base that the Sox can't cover with dice, anything that involves performance lower than their best or injury in the top three in the rotation are things for which the Sox just don't have an answer. Cook moving up to the 5 hole with dice the 4 and Felix the 3 with Buch and Lester at the top is not an answer for a team with post season aspirations. That said there is a real chance here that Buch is hitting his stride. It looks like injury would be the only thing that would hold him back at this point.

Mark Prior is an interesting option for a guy to call up for some starts.

He's been throwing in relief lately, but as Alex Speier pointed out, each of his past 3 or 4 relief appearances have come with multiple days of rest between them (he was throwing on 3 days rest in his last 2 appearances).

Wonder if they're starting to stretch him out a little. This guy was an elite pitcher when he wasn't hurt. Looks like he may have a clean bill of health, and we may have just stumbled upon a guy who makes an impact this year.

He's only thrown 6.2 IP in AAA, but hasn't allowed a run, 3 hits, 15 K's.

Yes. 15 K's in a possible 20 outs.

He's not a starter anymore. The guy cannot stay healthy

Well if you're relying on him to throw 200 innings, you're right, he's not healthy enough.

But for him to come up and give spot starts and be a long man out of the bullpen, he's perfect for that.

And lets not forget, pitchers will often times surprise you. Look at Bartolo Colon last year.

Sweeney has a "toe issue". Please....lets see....what part of the Sweeney's body is basically hidden? His toe!

Funny thing is that since the news is really Kalish up not the corresponding move to put Sweeney on the DL to make it happen, the articles all just sort of cut a line into the piece so that there is at least something there on Sweeney.

However I think they could have written that Sweeney had gone over Niagara Falls in a barrel and nobody would have noticed.

I hope Kalish goes right into the lineup. Lets see what the kid has got!

It's almost a certainty that Kalish is in there today.

I wonder if they'll have Gonzo in RF again tonight. He needs a break. I know Youk didn't play last night, but we also won. All of this inconsistent lineup and who is playing where s*** has got to stop.

Youk needs to sit again tonight. Don't ruin the season by letting Youk manage the team.

Damn Yankees are already up against the Nats....only 1-0 but it should be clear that the Rays and Yanks have the bit between their teeth NOW. Sox.....huh....my alarm clock did not go off.....hey man....not my fault!!

I really want the Nats to win this game today....mainly because Sox/Cubs is a night game so the Sox for the umpdidy-umpth time this year can show us something like some of what it takes to dig out of the hole they have dug for themselves.

Will we get the ole' faithful...."Yawn, first inning....no sweat guys we got time" or will they come out and fight from the first swing of the bat?

Last night we got the usual first inning..... Papi trotting around the base paths until whoops, I could get home......NOT!

All the ALE teams are currently ahead in their games. For me that makes tonite a "must win" game because if we fall any farther behind at all IMO our fate is sealed. We won't catch all those teams ahead of us in that case.

Yankee game is hard to watch. They are only up 2-1 with both runs on 1 run homers. Have left a bunch of guys on base but have moved runners along...have basically played the kind of game we rarely see from the Sox lately. Nova has not given the Nats much to hit. I hate this!

Sox have not posted their lineup for tonight yet. Cubs have. Hope V is pondering Kalish. Hope V plays him.

I won't post the lineup cause other folks do that here but Kalish is batting 8th and playing CF tonight.....Yea....Go Ryan.

Youk sucks' date=' rather see struggling Gonzo than .200 youk[/quote']

At least Youk stung the ball 3 or 4 good times against Dempster. He's due for a couple broken bat flares to land tonight.

Who cares about other ALE teams are doing? The Sox need to start winning first or it doesn't matter.

You are kidding, right?

Because its all relative. We win+they win=we remain in last place far out of a playoff run. We lose+they win= we get so far behind that catching them (and there are a lot of them) becomes magical thinking.

Yeah, its June. In two weeks it will be July. Are you guys going to say then "hey, its only July"? There is, unfortunately, a point at which its time to stop pretending we have a realistic shot at the playoffs. That time is fast approaching.

There is an article on bleacher report about Jon Lester being the sox best trade chip.

Can't believe sox would actually trade Lester. We need pitching not looking to dump it I thought.

It's not even close to being over. 10 games out can be made up on 5 games, there are almost 100 games remaining.

Just noticed your tag line.

RSFFL should probably head off to the bank early this week to apply for the loan he will need to complete his promise. :D

The Bleacher Report is made up of fans. They're just talking out of their asses, like us.
