He will fit right in with the other stars of his stature on the team: Saltalamachia, McDonald, Punto....oh wait: those guys play in the major leagues. The Podfather (his actual nickname) plays in AAA ball.

Why bother?

Pawtucket's OF may be depleted with the call ups

He is pretty good' date=' he helped white sox win world series in 2005. good trade[/quote']

And Scott Brosius helped the Yankees win a World Series, would he be a good acquisition too?

Well he retired, so no. Podsednik is still playing and helped a team win a world series.

Pods has played 22 AAA games this year and has a .505 OPS. Last year he bounced around the minors for 34 games. This guy will never see Fenway. He should've retired after 2010

I don't understand why people are always so negative. Give Pods a chance, he has proven to be a winner before and can do it again now! He is just an American League player.

Funny line from Peter Abraham's:

Podsednik, Marlon Byrd, Nick Punto, Kelly Shoppach and Darnell McDonald? Ben Cherington is the Statue of Liberty for replacement level players, welcoming all huddled masses.

• Speaking of which, Daniel Nava is 2 for 5 with four walks in two games.

Another 4A player they don't need.

I'm pulling for Nava--but the dopes will probably ship him down. That kid has a nice swing.

I like it. Podsednik is a good player to add as a bit of bench depth in September. It's a nothing move in the big picture, but it can't hurt us, and Podsednik could help us if we can get enough of our other ducks in a row.

No, he can't, unless he's a duck hunter and all the ducks are lame. He's awful.

I thought this meant Henry gave the team all ipods to go with their headphones.

I thought they all got those pods you rent and put in your driveway when moving to store your stuff.;)

Muhammed Ali has proven to be a winner before as well, let's see him get in the ring again.

Pods has been brought into Pawtucket to bolster their outfield and make sure there is another warm body that they can bring up to Boston if there are more injuries to the outfield core.

Welcome to the circus, Scott. You can now join the clowns that we have in the OF. I am definitely looking forward to watching the circus this year until Ells and Crawford return.

On a serious note, I do like Ross, Sweeney, Byrd, and Nava. Sweeney and Ross are both platoon players, Byrd is a decent backup, and Nava is still a mystery. So far everything is going good with Nava. I just hope Ells returns soon. We need at least one quality starter in the OF. I am not really in favor of this trade, nor against it. I don't see him starting for us, but at the same time I could see him a backup option/depth move. We have way too many backups starting for this team in the OF.

Meanwhile, Nava is hitting .500 since he got called up.

The kid has such a good swing, you wonder if he can break out.

I said a while ago I thought they should bring the whole Pawtucket team up.

Maybe it's not a bad idea. But the front office is content to bring in everybody else's rejects while the prospects "gain experience" in AAA.

What has been most interesting is the degree to which WMB and Nava have elevated the quality of Red Sox play. To some extent some of these guys should be ashamed of themselves especially when you think about Nava being something of a Crash Davis type, a journeyman outfielder that has spent a tremendous amount of time in the minor leagues has come up and not only contributed but has enhanced the overall quality of the Sox game by an appreciable and noticeable amount. They have been more reliable in the field and on the base paths. They have had better, smarter plate appearances than many of the established vets.

I don't really need some of these established vets to be embarrassed but they should be. I will be happy enough if they take notice of how much better they have played as a team, how much more cohesive their effort has looked as a team because of the addition of a rookie 3rd baseman and a journeyman outfielder.

Pods isn't going to make the Boston lineup, so I don't see why some people are reacting like they have to this signing. The only time that he WOULD make the lineup is if our first 6 OF choices were all injured, and in that situation, we're pretty much screwed anyway, regardless of who fills in.

This move is purely for depth purposes, and when adding someone to fill that sort of role, I'd rather add a guy who had game but is getting old than a younger guy who never had game to begin with. All in all, quality signing for depth purposes which will have essentially zero impact on Boston, barring a major injury collapse (as I mentioned earlier), in which case we're pretty much f***ed anyway.

Yeah--which is an argument for getting Iggy and Lav up--but the front office hasn't gotten the message yet. They are loading the roster with mediocre veteran players.

Nava is a mystery. He's had his chances, but maybe he just needs to play to find himself at this level.

He doesn't quite have the skill level to have an extended major league career. He's a fill in from the minors, nothing more.
