Golfers from nearby Hemlock Ridge Golf Course called police at 12:39 p.m. to alert them to the crash.

A preliminary investigation shows that Beane’s Suzuki crossed double solid lines, left the road and hit a tree and a wall on Holland Road.

There were no other passengers in the car and no other vehicles involved.

Beane was born in Agawam and had been the announcer for the Red Sox since 2003. He worked for WBZ NewsRadio 1030 during the mid 90′s.

It's not much of a salary, basically free seat and travel expenses.

The Red Sox want to have a moment of silence honoring Carl Beane before tomorrow night's game, but they don't have anyone to make the announcement.

Tragic. Carl had my dream job. No matter how messed up the season was, his 'GOOD EVENING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BOYS AND GIRLS, AND WELCOME TO FENWAY PARK!' was always uplifting.

And now with the whole 'dying in 3s' thing, I'm worried about the other red sox folks (i.e. Pesky) on the brink.

Pesky has had a full and rewarding life.
