The only bright spot I think is that they are going on the road...they have been a complete choke at home. I had hoped that last road trip would be a springboard but it was not. To many parts of this team are just total FAIL. Hope for better against KC.

Have to admit..totally done with AGons. Some guys on this team should be wearing a dunce cap....AGons should just have four white feathers in his cap...or for those that might miss that one....he should stick a white flag in his belt.

No worries, I'll be back in Boston soon... Idk what it is, but over my life ( 31 yrs old ) I've only been to 2!!! Losing gms... And that's with living in Ohio and going to see the reds!!!! Lol ...... Hmmm maybe I can start getting some tv time like the fireman guy from the jets????

It's time. It really is time.

If this team is going to win this year, they need to win with youngsters.

Bring up Lavarnway, this team would have won this game in the 9th if Salty could catch a freaking pop up.

Bring up Iglesias. This pitching needs all the defensive help it can get, although the bullpen has been an absolute Jekyll and Hyde situation. But go ahead and get rid of Darnell. He's not a very good player. Stick Aviles out in LF. Platoon Ross and Sweeney in RF. Ross struck out FIVE times today. He can't hit RHP, and K's over 30% of the time.

This team has GOT to shake things up. Absolutely has to. Trade Salty for whatever you can get. DFA DMac. Bring up Lavarnway. Bring up Iglesias (who, by the way, has figured something out, hitting .571, 1.433 OPS in May, and is hitting .282, .708 OPS in his past 10 games).

As Jung said, you get a very solid arm out in LF with Aviles. You have Byrd in CF. And you have Sweeney/Ross which is actually a fantastic platoon.

That should be step 1 in fixing this team.

And you get a vacuum for an infield without having to pay for it in the offense. Really really worried about AGons but still how can they not be better off. I think it will be more of a "give up" move on this season to keep it the way it is than to bring up the kids and set up the way we are suggesting.

McDonald looks like he thought he was playing softball. I can't think of too many players who wouldn't have hit that pitch out.

So why did Valentine get to a point where he ran out of pitchers and had to forfeit the game?

Look at the innings after Buchholz: Miller 1.1, Padilla 1.0, 5 pitchers at 2 innings each. That's 7 pitchers to throw 13 innings, not counting the last inning to McDonald. Funny thing, the Orioles did about the same thing.

20 years ago, a mid-reliever goes at least 3-4 innings, so you don't need to carry 13 pitchers and run out of them in extra innings. Bullpens these days are grossly overused--mainly because pitchers have too many appearances and too few innings/appearance. As Johnny Sain said, half the wear and tear is in the bullpen heatup.

As I said in the fix thread, do this! 100% agree

This is where Wakefield would've shined. He was our go to guy for these long extra innings games.

Guarantee wakes been sitting by his phone all season waiting for a call.... Even if you just kept him in the pen for "windy" days coming in from CF...... When wake had the wind at his back, he's unhittable

And that's without fixing the pitching--which is the main problem. I suspect part of that is the way pitchers are handled in Boston-- baby the starters, kill the bullpen.

At the time I thought Miller should have gone one more inning and I still think he should have. While that is a small thing that is the spot where V could have set up to manage the time better for the rest of the relief guys. They had the bottom of the O's order coming up and Miller feelin' it. Thought he should have gotten one more inning there.

As I said earlier the Sox lost this game every which way but poor relief performances. Sloppy stupid hitting from some in the line up...some of the other guys starting to take to much burden on themselves which is certainly at least understandable....more incredibly poor catching from Salty and bad situational baseball by the coaching staff in general.

The only guy I could look at today and say he was just the wrong guy in the wrong place is Ross. He is stuck in the line up against RH pitchers and he has no business being there. What is happening to him now was bound to happen. That was only a matter of time.

Agons and Pedey need to be switched in the line up immediately. If V does not see that by now I don't know what the hell he is looking at and frankly if I could drop AGons out of the middle of the order entirely I probably would but we can't. However he has to go to 3rd with Pedey batting 4th.

The pitchers are pretty tough to fix. You almost have to hope that an improved defense will do some of the work, and that the guys will find their numbers.

Buchholz is getting zero downward action on his FB. He's like Aceves was at the beginning of the season. He needs to be sent down to AAA until he figures it out because he is crushing this team.

The good news is that Middlebrooks is the real deal. The kid can mash, he's been working the count well, getting into hitters counts, and he has put a ton of really good swings on pitches.

His defense is an added plus too.....after the 10 gms or whatever it is until youk comes back, if WMB is still hitting, I don't see how the sox can send him back down...

I agree, even when Youk is back, how do you send down a kid who plays defense 3x better than Youkilis and is OPS'ing .980.

Middlebrooks is really producing. That OPS should be higher but he made a rookie mistake and thought that ball was going foul. Either way, the kid should be here to stay.

BUT at the same time.... Youk's value is about zero right now... We'd be lucky to get a AA prospect for him..... Might have to get him some ab's, to make him more enticing to teams needing a 3B......

My solution package youk, buch, aviles or Iglesias and whoever else and bring back hanram!!!!!!! ( pipe dream I know, but I can dream with the best of them )

Anyone want a gentleman's bet that Middlebrooks gets sent back down when Youkilis is ready to play again? We could wager a tag line or something small.

I don't think this team has the balls to tell Youk he lost his job to a rookie, to be honest. So I won't make that wager.

But I think the right move is to let WMB play everyday.

I would not take a bet that involved this team's FO, players, field managers , grounds crew, peanut vendors..........

They have to play youk at some point if they plan on trading him and getting any kind of value back

Man I miss the days of manny and Ortiz being the most feared duo in MLB......

Do you mean the days when the two of them were so jacked on roids that they had the ability to cheat and win TWO championships?

f*** those two juicers.

I love those two swell guys.

Fixed it for you.

Troll mojo didn't work today.

Impressions of today's game:

  • This team has plenty of fight. They fought like hell on Friday and Sunday, but they don't have a killer instinct like the great Sox teams did. The Orioles made plenty of miscues during those games. Red Sox teams in past seasons that had the killer instinct would have run the O's off the field in the first 3 innings.
  • Buchholz is lost. He needs to go to AAA to find himself. They can't keep rolling him out there to get treated like a punching bag.
  • Salty is at best a backup catcher. I'd prefer to keep Shoppach as the backup and send Salty away.
  • DMac needs to go away too. The Sox should not have a 33 year old AAA player on the roster.
  • Agon had an epic bad day. He needs to break out. Hopefully, it will be soon.
