We will be able to know it in four years, when his contract is up.

Losing him was a huge loss, no doubt about it. I do recall lots of games when he created a lot of Papeldrama out there. I think he is overpaid, and I don't think that any of our GMs was going to give him that money to stay here, not this year. Look who we signed this offseason: do you see anyone given that kind of money?

Besides, Papelbon is only one issue. Epstein is responsible for the financial state we are now in, unable to pursue talented FAs last winter. Epstein and our owners, who wouldn't open their purses. Cherington had little to do with this roster, not with the guys with talent, and not with the budget. When he arrived there wasn't money available. He had to shop at Target, not Niemann Marcus.

I actually believe that we can't compare a player when he goes to a different team, exp.. What if he blows his arm out because Philly overuses him? You can't then say " see?? He got hurt, glad we let him walk" .... It's widely accepted that the national league is pitchers paradise ..... Fielder is gone... Pujols is gone... Etc etc... Comparisons wont be fair either way

Wow' date=' I see we still are the worst team in the Majors.[/quote']

WRONG!

We have one more win than the Royals, Cubs, and Padres.

We are only the FOURTH worst team in the majors.

Don't exaggerate.

That makes me feel so much better.

since griffey threw left handed, the discussion is moot. underexstimating arod's atleticism is in [play though. and centerfield is a much easier position to play than shortstop.

I am assuming he stays healthy. And there are correction factors you can use that compensate for being in Philly and in the NL. I think eventually we will know if he was worth it. If he keeps putting up his good numbers, then sure, he was worth it. Not that we could afford him this year anyway (we buy Papelbon and we don't have a RF or a bullpen). Fact is, Epstein left this year's team in dire financial straights this offseason. Furthermore, we got Crawford for 6 more years; we got Beckett and Lackey long term too. In response to your initial wish to have him back, no thanks.

Didn't you refer to Thomas's product as bagels earlier too?

Let do our homework here, eh? These things matter.

They are tough to watch at the moment. I don't even want to think about how few innings we have lead. Our pen sucks but we hardly ever hand them the ball with a lead or even tied. So it is tough for me to spend much time pining for a better pen.

I think we should thank our lucky stars that Doubront had Bard have done as well as they have as a 4 and 5 for starting pitchers. Have to hope they hit better. I think they will and hope they hit good enough and really worried about their defense with a pitching staff that is getting few K's. Lots contact so far. Only defensive saving grace is much of the contact has gone yard.

On a positive note' date=' Tazawa sure looked good out there. Especially compared to the guy he replaced.[/quote']

That's not that hard to do. All you have to do is have a ERA that is below 40. But, really, he does look good.

The news from Pawland was that Tazawa was showing good stuff and he has shown that here as well. I happen to think that the year for this team may well be sitting down there in Pawtucket.
