Well damn. Gotta come out and get the W tomorrow. Should have taken 2/3 in Detroit, but need to at least get 1 W under the belt and then go roll over Toronto.

Maybe Ellsbury/Aviles/Youkilis/Ross will get a knock this year.

Wow they went down with their tails between their legs....not one single stinkin' run. That was an embarrassment. Don't mind the loss...don't like the way they are playin'. Heck its not the dog days of August.

Thank God that nightmare game is over.

Cue the negative-ass naysayers etc. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Past 3 years now, this team has come out anemic in the Opening series (1-7 in past 3 Opening Series). Not sure how they can play this bad.

Well, bad day by Beckett. Buchholz vs Scherzer should give the Sox an edge. Doesn't matter if the offense can't hit, though.

Youkilis looks so out of sorts that I'm wondering if Crawford can play 3rd. His swing has holes everywhere. Just looks so uncomfortable.

Get the win tomorrow, boys.

Youk looks old....not uncomfortable. He has been fading in recent years and he just looks like he has caved. I am hoping he will look better when the weather warms up.

Games like today are the reason that watching baseball is better than any sport.

You play like complete dogshit and get the s*** knocked out of you, but it only counts once, and you always play tomorrow.

Youk looks the way I expected Youk to look. Beckett is pitching like a number of us expected. None of this is a surprise. I know it is only the second game of the year but when the team performs as one expects there isn't much else to say.

I think Buch will surprise us tomorrow. No logic at all. Just that when things go this badly the law of averages often kicks in and you get a plus. I would love to see it as much for Buch as anything else. It might really help him if he comes in there and gives us a great performance. Nobody expects him to be Mr Stopper. I would like it for him. Would like to see him earn some respect from his teammates and get it.

Yes. Youk's 57% K rate is expected. His .000/.000/.000 line is expected. Beckett's 9 HR/9 is expected. His 13.49 ERA is what we all expected.

I mean if those numbers aren't surprising to you, then you're delusional. If you expected Beckett to have around a 3.8-4.2 ERA, fine. But to get blown up for 5 bombs and 7 ER over 4.2 IP, and say that you expected that? That's just a lie.

Buchholz has historically been very good vs Detroit (1-1, 2.58 ERA over 37.1 IP).

Miggy is 3 for 15 against him in his career, and he has never faced Fielder. We'll see. We need a stopper.

The good news - Scherzer has thrown 13.1 IP vs BOS, posting a 9.45 ERA. Most of the damage was done last year, when he threw 2 IP, allowing 7 ER.

Favorable match up if the bats can wake up.

i agree. Tomorrow the Tigers will complete the sweep. We could win a game in Toronto, but just one most likely. This is just about what I expected of Beckett. Honestly, I thought we might score more runs this year. Oh well....such is life during a rebuilding year.

Enjoy the ride, right?

With one exception. Nobody was talkin' about them not showin' up for the second game of the year. That was a no show. Possibly something you would expect from a flea bitten August dog of a team. Beckett pitching aside...they played like a downtrodden team plays in the dog days of August. That goes way beyond poor play.

Very interested to see what we see/hear out of V and what they hear/see out of V.

Aren't you so pissed the Sox are going to go 0-162??

Maybe I've got it all wrong. I thought a "rebuilding year" was when you dished off contracts for minor league high ceiling talent.

Guess they'll be rebuilding for the next 4-7 years.

Again with meanless stats and the needless insults. I expected Youk to look old he did. I and others expected Beckett not to start well especially after his odyssey in search of "peace of mind" and he didn't. Several predicted earlier that Beckett wouldn't have a good year. After his outing today he did nothing to change my or others who agree with that view minds. It is delusional to think otherwise. To call that a lie means you just haven't been paying attention.

Cody Ross looks completely out of sync since the sox left spring training.
He's a very streaky player. When he is on a hot streak, he plays like an All Star, but more often he plays like this.

Buchholz need to take the next step and be the #2 starter. He's been in the majors since 2007 and it's finally time to stop f***ing around.

Beckett will have his good days and bad days. He's just not consistent ever since arriving in Boston. Not something I want on the team.

Wouldn't be surprised if Valentine has Sweeney hitting leadoff' date=' Ells 2, Pedey 3, Gonzo 4, Ortiz 5, Youk 6, Salty 7, Ross 8.[/quote']

I would be shock. Ellsbury was the team MVP, he's going to get his sweet time.

Well, swap Sweeney and Ells then. I just wouldn't be surprised if he put Sweeney in the top 3 and went L L. He loves to have a LHH hitting 2nd in the order, and tomorrow would be a great time to do it - lefties OPS'd .841 against Scherzer last year.

If you are saying what a number of us have been saying for months then I couldn't agree more. Look Beckett was particularly awful today. There was an obvious connection with his sojourn to consult with several wrist dodtors. Even Beckett's staunchest supporters say he can't pitch if he isn't comfortable or he is out of his routine. He clearly wasn't comfortable today.
