I am not too worried about it. The sting and the drama are all fresh right now. Once negotiations start, (and the new GM and manager are in place), it will be a different thing.

I hope he returns.

:dunno:

Just read that article. Just goes to show you how far this guy has fallen. If he doesn't want to be here than let him go. Worst cas escenario he ends up with the Yankees. he's thirty six and doesn't have much time left anyway. I appreciate all that he has done. His attitude has turned to garbage. Time to get this old guard out of here. Pedey, Gonzalez, And Crawford need to take over the leadership roles.

Ortiz has already started negotiating....that is the point. "Gosh you guys got to pay me to stay here. Ya' gotta' pay me to stay because this is just too much drama for me and ya' gotta' pay Wake so he can break the all time win record."

Get the hell outta here Dave or stay but if you are going to stay... for now...just shut up.....can ya' just shut up!

I wouldn't hold your breath on Gonzo and Crawford. It Pedroia's team now, 100%. If they're gonna put a hockey "C" on someone, it ought to be him.

I would not have Gonzo captain this team under any circumstances. It is Peddey's team now thank God. However I hope they either get rid of the whole captaincy thing or at the very least get rid of that stupid C. This is not Hockey.

Too much drama, his words. I think the sox want him to go, but it doesnt sound like he even wants to come back. I dont want him in the Bronx, but I'd love to see him go to the Mariners. They need offense and he'd be a non-factor in that park

With all that's gone on it gives Cherington or whoever the new GM a free pass to finally part ways with all three remaining sacred cows: Wakefield, Varitek, and Big Diva. Wakefield and Varitek should have been shown the door three years ago, but Diva has at least carried his weight. That said, he was part of the problem this year, and it's time to say good-bye. I can see them offering him a one year deal for maybe 7-8M, and telling him to take it or leave it--which he most assuredly will do. Wish him luck and send him on his way. It's time.

Sad when things end, isn't it?

We're in as good a position to replace Ortiz as we're ever likely to be, so if it has to end, it might as well be now.

Farewell, big guy. Thanks for 04 and 07 but all things end.

And I wouldn't worry about the Yankees. It's unlikely they go in that direction as they don't really like having a DH-only player on the roster.

Besides they need their DH spot for Jeter when they make their full-court press for Jose Reyes this offseason.

Yeah right,

Ortiz would hit 40+ HR playing for the Yankee's

I hope Papi is talking his way out of Boston. He has been behaving like a prima donna lately.

Somehow, this year he was able to reverse his decline of the past few years. At age 36, I doubt he can do it again. It looked like the typical contract year to me.

Papi is a one-dimensional player--he can't play a position. That decreases his value-- a failure of Epstein to take this into account. Roster space is very limited these days, so the DH should be a position player, in my view, or else team depth suffers. Vmart would look better on this club right now instead of Papi. And they should sign Cuddyer to replace Papi and platoon in the outfield.

when you have a DH there's no need to have a position player .

and how would Vmart look better with this club ?

Ortiz is better than him as DH

Gonzo is better than him at 1st base

Martinez only catched 28 games at Catcher this year for the Tigers

The only way V-mart looks good on this team was if he was going to play most of his games at C

Ortiz was worth 125 Mil since he's been with the team in 03 according to fangraphs.

Great work by theo on this one

He'll go to Tampa and proceed to destroy the Red Sox everytime Tampa faces Boston.

Tampa? Their payroll is 30 million, and he made 13 million last year. I do not see it.

Can't see them putting a .280/18 HR hitter in the DH slot....

Why have all my favorite players turned into whiny prima donnas.

familiarity breeds contempt!!!

saying he wouldnt mind going to the Wankees is an absolute disgrace, just disgraceful.

im not american, but even i know the rivalry is huge between the sox and the wankees.

take it this way, im a Liverpool fan. if Steven Gerrard said he wanted to join Man Utd, he would probably be shot!!!

for these remarks alone, the Red Sox should not sign him up to a long term deal, hell, not even a short term one!!!!

the only thing i will say though is. If they take Ortiz, then we should take Sabbathia, just as an "up yours" to them

any chance they'll take Lackey???

The day he interrupted a press conference with Francona to complain about a scorer's decision that cost him an RBI was the day I lost respect for the man. I think you guys are right: let him go. Even better, as Paladios suggested, offer him arbitration and take the picks.

That's the way to go. Diva has been here too long, and views himself as something akin to royalty. You're right, offer him arbitration and end the relationship. It's time.

It cost him more than that. Sayonara, Papi.

I'm not sure where to put this because it is so fitting in every thread here, but the entire Red Sox organization is a bunch of jr. high girls on the rag. That is all & I'm sorry it wasn't more constructive, I'm just sick of this immature drama BS. Even more sick than watching them suck in September. It really is disappointing.

I think everyone here and the rest of Red Sox Nation would totally agree with you on that. No apologies needed.

Weve got to remember how pissed off we all were and are with things, he must feel the same, dont understand how he could think about going there but do we honestly think he is not worth keeping based on last years record??

I think i would be phsically sick if he went to the yankers

So' date=' the bottom line is if Ortiz leaves who do we get to fill in at DH?[/quote']

Youkilis?

IMO we should have a DH that can play in the field occasionally without embarassing himself. That gives the team more flexibility. The DH could then spell one or two of the position players in addition to the DH role. Ortiz could never do that.

Posted
Youk will probably get it.

I agree with that statement. But I somewhat wish to see Lavarnway more. He could POTENTIALLY be a DH because of the lack of experience at catcher, but Youkilis already said that he'll probably end up being a DH at some point in his career. Which raises the question mark: Who will be our third basemen?
