Garza has a career ERA of 3.83; Beckett has a career ERA of 3.84. He is in the same category as Beckett performance-wise. If we could get him and add him to the SR along with Beckett' date=' Lester, and CB we would have a good top four.[/quote']

Sorry, I just do not like Garza. Felt the same way about Matt Clement. Must be the chin pubes.

Just don't see Garza having anything to do with the Theo deal or the future of the Red Sox.

If one day Garza ends up on this team' date=' make sure in the contract it says he can't spit every 2 seconds. I know it's baseball and it's a normal thing but he does it wayyy too much.[/quote']

He's completely disgusting with the spitting issue. :thumbdown

There are plenty of other better pitchers out there.

Where does it say the Sox are only getting cash??

The last I heard was Gammons talking about them receiving Brett Jackson + $15-20mm.

Say what you will about Gammons and his homerism, but he is a credible source for all things Red Sox. He broke the story about the disconnect between Theo and Francona.

I personally want Wilson but I wouldn't mind Garza. It'd make a nice 4 man rotation.

Don't worry man. The Sox are going to get an elite SP. Here's how it will shake out:

1. Sox obtain Brett Jackson (#38 prospect per Baseball America) from Cubs for Theo.

2. Sox trade Ellsbury to a team like the Braves for prospects, or to the Angels for Dan Haren (include mid-level prospect in deal).

3. If Haren is not acquired, Sox trade elite prospects received in Ellsbury and Cubs deal for Felix Hernandez.

4. Red Sox sign David DeJesus (extremely good fielder, high OBP guy) to a 3 year deal, and he is the new RF.

5. Red Sox make Daniel Bard the #5 starter, Lackey becomes mop up guy, Aceves is set up guy

6. Red Sox sign Jonathan Papelbon to 3 years/35mm deal

Rotation:

Felix/Haren

Lester

Buchholz

Beckett

Bard

Lineup:

DeJesus

Crawford

Pedroia

Gonzalez

Youkilis

Ortiz

Lavarnway/Salty (DH/C)

Kalish (CF)

Scutaro

Dog me if you want about putting Crawford in the 2 slot, but I think he will do well there, especially if we bring in Dave Martinez to be the manager. Give Crawford a little more comfort level. We all know what he can do.

Regardless, that's a ridiculous team, and that's a ridiculous rotation, set up perfectly for the post-season.

Who in their right mind would want to face Haren/Felx - Lester - Buchholz in a short series?? Especially when you have to face that lineup with it

Chad Finn's predictions don't include Wilson. They do include Cuddyer.

I'll buy that, but that makes Papi expendable if Kalish plays RF. And Finn has them keeping Ortiz, which would be a mistake if they sign Cuddyer. I would keep Youkilis, and restore some RHd power in the lineup. Youks is an excellent hitter when he's healthy. Beware of all this media negativity about Youks.

He's not one of the bad apples they need to unload. He and Pedey are the core of the Red Sox when they're healthy.

you forgot the fairy dust

Because the Sox are trading for an elite SP? What else on that listing is even remotely out of the question?

You're right though, a .321/.376/.552, 32 HR, 105 RBI, 39 SB, 212 H, 119 R leadoff hitter won't score us s***.

We should probably hope that we can get someone like Zach Britton for him.

Ellsbury is under team control through 2013.

Haren is under contract through 2013.

Ellsbury is a perfect fit with the Angels, so a deal for Haren is very reasonable.

If they get Haren, they can keep Brett Jackson, and use him as the starting RF.

This tonight from the guy that crashed his manager's press conference to moan about his lost RBI:

"There is too much drama on the Red Sox this year. I don't know if I want to be part of this drama next year"

"Dave would you consider going to the Yankees if it were possible"

"I realize there is a lot going on between these two teams. I have a great deal of respect for the Yankees. I hear it is a great situation over there. Who would not want to be part of a great situation where everything goes right"

Ya' know what Dave, unless you are making some comment like Peddey just made (basically, "we did not get it done, we need to come back strong next year") you David are adding to the drama. So just shut the F*** up *******. I am so sick of these whinny Sox vets that just cannot keep their mouths shut right in the middle of Armageddon.

I am at the point where they just make me sick.

Gammons hasnt been a great reporter in quite some time. He's typically wrong with his predictions of late and it seems like a lot of his sources have dried up. He's the old guy you can sit back and listen to talk for awhile, but most of his new s*** is unfounded. My guess is the sox get money, but no prospects. Jackson is a good prospect, you dont deal a good prospect for a front office type

If we can get him and he keeps his ERA under 4 or so, he can fill up the damn spitoon for all I care. Function over form..........

But there is no way he is included in the Epstein deal; no way.

They are talking about getting Matt Garza as compensation for Theo signing in Chicago. BWAHAHAHA. That is hilarious.

Dude, I assume anyone (including myself) is joking about that/wishful thinking.

Your team just got eliminated. Your pitching staff sucks. Your two highest paid players sucked when it mattered most.

Go clean your own s***.

Would you rather have Bard or Lackey in there? :dunno:

I'd much rather see Bard in there, make Lackey the new Wakefield (#6 starter, mop up duty in bullpen), and sign some low-risk/high upside guys like Chris Young, Brandon Webb, and Rich Harden to be your #7, #8, and #9 SP.

Isn't Dice-K under contract for one more year? If they're going to take Lackey out he'll be in there I assume. Dice-K can be a disaster at times too but he gives you a decet amount of fair games. Bard is good where he is. Don't f*** up what we have with him as setup. I'd actually start Aceves instead despite his bad SP record. I'm not a fan of moving BP arms to starting roles which is why I'll probably never agree on this.

DiceK is ours for one more year, but he isn't expected back until August. I doubt we will see him on the mound for us again.

“I don’t think John Lackey can ever put that uniform on again. There will be some guys who will walk on that field on Opening Day next year and get booed louder than any New York Yankee who ever set foot on the field" - Curt Shilling

He might be right about the uniform and booing part.

And he is going to have company.

The very best way for the fans to express their displeasure is to boycott opening day. If no improvement is seen, no apologies issued, more boycotts. The owners under$tand that language be$t of any language.

Could someone tell me what exactley happend to Dice-K (concerning his injury)? I dont think Im too clear one what it was. Pluse did someone mention that he may not be back on the field for us until next August? That is not a very reashoring comfort here.

Projecting?

At this time of year either your team is on the outside looking in or it is playing for a title. Your team and the Red Sox are both looking in.

The Sox lost a bunch of games in September and have a shitload of work to do. It's not projecting to ask why you're not over in your corner nursing your own wounds. Your team was bounced in the first round.

Or do you not care about that?

Better to choke in the regular season than the postseason. No team has EVER lost a series in baseball when they were up 3 games to 0......until the Yankees did.

No team has EVER failed to make the playoffs with a 9 game lead in Sept....until the Red Sox did, and it was a team that was expected to the best in baseball.
