This needs to be said. This team is the most unlikeable collection of losers I've ever seen in my life. I hope they miss out on the playoffs because wholesale changes are needed and they will not come if they make the playoffs.

The only players you can build around are Lester, Ellsbury, Pedroia, and Gonzalez. Everyone else should be on the chopping block.

I also feel Francona will not survive the season if they collapse. If they don't fire him, he will leave on his own accord.

Tito will be gone and Theo will probably get 1 year to right the ship, or maybe they clean house/

Good. They need to be humbled and knocked down a few pegs. Let's throw boatloads of free agent cash at mediocrity.

They need to gut this team and get young. Too many old and injury prone players.

Just to put that in perspective, that's almost DOUBLE the payroll of the Rays. Just let that sink in. We spent nearly double their payroll on players who have given us practically nothing this season. Throw $80 million into a pile, cover it with lighter fluid and throw a match on it. That's what this Red Sox team did just for 2011.

That's what happens when you try to compete with the Yankees--at their money game.

The Yanks burn that kind of money, too. They're still paying a lot of guys who are long gone.

Pedroia needs to stop running his mouth and hit. He's a huge part of the problem.

Pedey hit about .400 for a month, and then slacked off. Needed a couple of days off he didn't get. Now he's hitting again.

You're pickin' on the wrong guy.

I honestly don't see Henry doing a thing--playoffs or no playoffs.

Sure they fired Grady Little--but they needed a vote of 3 out of 4 to do it.

The media will have to kick like hell for any action to change the management.

I also really f***ing hate how the fans sing Sweet Caroline with glee and aplomb' date=' two nights in a row, after the Sox blow a lead in a big game. Get a clue.[/quote']We should start a petition and send it to Sox management. That ridiculous pink hat song (apologies to ND and iortiz) should be reserved for situations when the Sox are ahead. Really, there are too many distractions at Fenway. Between every batter having his own song and all the other loud music, you can't even have a discussion during the game.

Do you really think that the self-proclaimed "City of Champions" is going to happily accept a second consecutive year without baseball playoffs? There will be riots.

I can't lie' date=' as optimistic as I am, the way they're playing right now is sickening.[/quote']

It is Emmz. It certainly is.

I'm still optimistic about them making the playoffs, they have the lead with few games left. I'm not optimistic about them at all in the playoffs.

I'm still very optimistic about the future of the club. They're one of the best franchises in the game, few would dispute that.

I agree with all of that. I still think we'll get in... after that... well let's say I'm not so confident.

Thank you people for looking at this disaster objectively.

I do not wish bad upon this team, but everything that I have said is true.

This team is awful, everything about them. The last 2 years have been miserable to be a Sox fan.

How about fans start booing the Sweet Caroline song.....get the s*** outta here. No need for that crap, the song sucks anyway.

My biggest concern, is that they will march this same s***** team out there next year.

The problem is, they are making money.....a TON of money. They opened up the checkbook the last 2 years and it has netted Crawford, Lackey, Cameron, and Jenks. What if ownership says that enough is enough? Someone needs to be held accountable.

If ownership REALLY cares about baseball and winning, they will do anything possible to dump DiceK, Lackey and Crawford in the off season regardless of the money we have to eat. Carl Crawford needs to pack his f***ing bags and get the hell out. After the 7-5 loss the other night, he had this to say to Gordon Edes:

"I don't know why you're standing here while I dress,'' I quoted Crawford as saying while several reporters, including yours truly, hovered nearby, "because when I'm dressed I'm leaving.''

I also wrote that Crawford said, "Go ask the captain,'' directing reporters to Jason Varitek, who had not played in Tuesday night's game.

Are you kidding me? Cant face the critics Carl? 20 million dollars a year and you cant answer questions about your sore neck or terrible season? Passing the buck to the captain who is on his way out the door and is the teams backup catcher? Coward. Carl Crawford pulled a Manny Ramirez/Nomar Garciapparra as far as I am concerned. Get his ass out of town.

No more excuses, no more coddling....as Sox fans we deserve accountability for this disaster. Heads need to roll, people need to be fired and certain players should be discarded at any means necessary.

Yes they are, which is why I hope they do the right thing this offseason, and fix this mess.

At least Manny was an offensive super power when he was acting like a dick. Even then, he still came close to wearing out his welcome a few times before he left town. Crawford is copping an attitude 1 year into robbing $142 million from the Sox? That doesn't bode well.

I actually completely disagree with you about this team being awful to watch. They were arguably the best team in baseball for much of the season. They destroyed the Yankees head to head and were on pace for 100+ wins for the first time since... who knows...

But I digress...

As to your looking at the offseason, I'm not sure how they will fix the "mess". I think they need their players to play to their potential. (More below)

Lots of house cleaning is in order. Maybe Theo will get his wish and be able to pursue his dream-- Social Work.

First of all, as a social worker, there's nothing wrong with social work!

Also, I think that the house cleaning that the FO would do is probably the EXACT OPPOSITE of what you would want. Papi? Gone. Paps? Gone. (in my opinion). They aren't likely to pay Ortiz the millions of dollars he wants for multiple years because he's old and had a freakish rebound (especially against LHP) after a few years. Also, they are highly aware of the problems of being overly-invested in bad contracts.

Paps is very good, but unless he will settle for a decent contract, we can expect him to go.

Now, I have enough confidence in Theo to think that he can stock the rest of the roster with players who make the team very, very good, but I envision an offseason of freaking out when these guys are released.

Guys like Kalish, Lavarnway etc., will/should get a serious shot at regular ABs.

I think Ortiz might go unless he would take a contract that would be a good value. He has not been the problem at all this year. We have sucked when he has been out of the lineup. He has had 2 very good years in a row. This was not a rebound year.

I think igf you start loading up the roster with Lavarnway (no position), Kalish and who is etc.? There's not much major league ready talent in the organization, so we can't really go young within the organization.

Here's the core that I would keep:

Beckett

Lester

Buchholz

Pedroia

AGon

Ellsbury

Papelbon

Bard

Possibly Ortiz for 1 year

I would keep Papelbon, because he is still elite as a closer, and I like him and Bard at the end of games. When Papelbon leaves, we will all be lamenting his absence. He has really spoiled us. He's had one off year, and even that wasn't terrible.

Everyone else can go-- including the manager, coaches and GM.

I am speechless right now! Mentally unable to verbalize an intelligent thought. Should we blame the FO, or the players, or the coaching staff. Did Farrell leaving really hurt down the stretch. Do we need a better strength and conditioning program. I have been a Sox fan for a long time. But this disaster is epic. Do I think we will make the playoffs? I think we can. Will we make it past the first round? NO! I just see a team that in the last couple of years without heart. I love this team, always will! My Grandfather introduced me to the Sox, God rest his soul. And I too believe that some house cleaning is in order. I have been in the military for 17 years and I know a little something about team cohesiveness. I saw it in 04 and 07. I don't see it now. Something has changed the dynamics of that clubhouse. Ok, maybe I was able to verbalize a little bit.

Ortiz 1 year with a mutual option. He can pick it up or if he wants out he decline.

And the only other FA from the team worth keeping is Papelbon. He had success here. Not many FA comes here and done well. Keep the guy who has proven himself in this market.

You know I disagree about the GM. As others have said, (I think Jacko put it best) Theo has been at the helm for 2 WS and the best decade in any of our lifetimes. I'm in no hurry to watch him go to the Cubs or anywhere else.

Manager, meh... maybe. Coaches... probably. This team needed to be ready to play at the beginning of the season (even an average start and they're sitting at 92-94 wins right now) and they weren't.

As for next year, it sounds like we agree on Ortiz. If he takes, say, 8m/yr for two years, he can stick around. Otherwise, I think he's too risky--especially at more years. It isn't his fault, he's had a great year, but it is time to move on.

I think Lavarnway would be mostly a DH, but he COULD catch (more valuable than 1B, which is what Ortiz offers) and he's RH. I suspect it is too early to just give him the position, but I think his bat is the real deal.

What I think about Kalish is that if he can come back healthy he should be the RF of the future. If he can come back healthy, I would think about making him the CF of the future and trading Ellsbury. He is one of the most valuable pieces on this team and could entice another team to move a pitcher.

The biggest problem I see is that there is no good pitching on the market for the forseeable future, and only a handful of elite pitchers on teams that might move them. I think Theo (or the next GM) will need to be really, really aggressive to get one. With Lackey, Dice-K and Buchholz all being question marks, that has to be a top priority IMO.

Also, Crawford was brought here to be what Ellsbury has been this year. Move Ells, put Crawford at the top of the lineup, find another 7th hitter, and have a rotation with another ace-caliber pitcher at the top. Seems like the only way to move forward, to me. Of course, I don't even know who that pitcher would be... so that's a non-starter too.

They were awful to watch all year last year, and a solid 2 months this season, but whatever I can see your point.

I think Paps has to stay, hes a proven big game pitcher in this market. After this year we dont ever have to hear about Daniel Bard closing again, not after a 2-9 record as a setup man.

I also would not mind seeing Ortiz back either, as long as the deal is team friendly.

Drew, Crawford, Reddick, Lowrie, Scutaro, Varitek, Bedard, Lackey, Wakefield, DiceK, Albers, Bowden, Miller, Wheeler, Jenks, Mcdonald.....

They all need to go. These guys are either hurt too often, too old, dead weight, not good enough or are just not a fit for Boston. I am hesitant to add Bard to that list.

The entire bullpen, minus Papelbon and MAYBE Bard needs to be once again blown up, dismantled and put back together. This is a reoccurring theme with Theo's bullpens.

Beckett, Buccholz and Lester are 1,2 and 3. Aceves can be your number 4 or 5. Find another back of the rotation guy to replace Lackey/Wakefield/bedard/DiceK. Maybe they should give Doubront the starts. Can he really be much worse than Lackey?

If they Sox find ways to get rid of Crawford/Lackey, the money they would be saving with the departures of Drew and DiceK (next year) would be a wash considering we will be paying a HUGE chunk of both Lackey and Crawfords contracts. LF and RF will take a hit. Maybe Lavarnaway learns LF (hell, Reggie Jefferson, Jose Canseco, Wil Cordero, Manny Ramirez, Brian Daubach, Kevin Millar, Eric Hinske, Kevin Youkilis all did it for a time period.) and Kalish plays RF while Ortiz stays with the team and DH's. Once again, we need to find a SS. Scutaro was nice, but we need to shake this entire thing up. Find another SS, there has got to be a long term solution out there, somewhere.
