Just stay positive my friend' date=' things are never as bad as they seem. We have a homestand coming up and I think that might be just what this team needs, win tomorrow and avoid the sweep and just back to winning some more ballgames. This is rough stretch in which Beckett's hurt, Bedard's hurt, Lackey has started to struggle again, and Miller and Wake are blowing which has led to all the innings being put on the bullpen starting to catch up with us. It sucks right now but don't worry, if we can just manage to hang in there and reach the playoffs, anything is possible.[/quote']

I totally agree. I'm optimistic. The Sox have been pretty consistent all year. A few bad patches here and there are to be expected. It could be worse but hey the Yanks aren't taking advantage. FU NY!

I agree that wins are not an indicator that a pitcher is good, but I do put some stock in the W-L record if a pitcher has a lopsided W-L record on the loss side.

Agreed, just one of those stretches. This team is too talented to just fall apart. It isn't 1978 anymore. :D

I hope Verlander gets the MVP. Or CC Sabathia. Those guys are indispensible.

CC deserves it. He has been a true stopper the last couple of years. Sure he pitches in

lopsided Yankee stadium, but he's still a horse.

Verlander could win the CY and MVP if he wins 25 games.

This could be the year a pitcher gets it. I wouldn't give it to any of the Red Sox--they are a disappointing team. Granderson has never been a factor--he doesn't hit for high enough average.

First off, Bard does not suck. He had what, a 27 inning scoreless streak this year? He throws a 98 MPH fastball, has a nasty slider, and leads the league in holds.

Yes he has 7 losses, but so did Papelbon last year, and look at the season Paps is currently having. Bard's problem is he's overworked, period. Francona overworks the guy. A perfect example is that game in KC a few weeks back. He bails Lester out of the 7th, we score some runs and I believe we have a 5 run lead, and he throws Bard out for the 8th to pitch a second inning. Why?

The other problem is our starters never make it to the 8th. I'd love to have a Felix Hernandez to take care of that.

I would like to know why we don't have a pitcher that could go 9 innings? a workhorse like Livan hernandez' date=' halladay... instead we have 5 inings pitcher like wake and miller ,lackey and even beckett rarely go 9 inings[/quote']

You beat me to it, bro.

If we go into the last weekend without having clinched, the Yankees will dump those games to Tampa.

Still running Lackey's club?:harhar:

Even I'll admit he's gone back to sucking balls, but don't you dare and try and tell me he wasn't actually decent for a good stretch there.

Not only does Granderson's average suck, he's currently third in strikeouts, and he's off to a horrid start in September.

I'd say Gonzalez has been the most consistent Sox of them all. Even when he's not hitting HRs, he keeps racking up doubles/singles/RBIs.

Lackey is the 2nd coming of Christ. Don't let anyone tell you different. Even Jesus had his bad days. ;)

You wanna hold up on that s*** 'til we're actually done dude? Wanna hear something interesting? If the season ended today, we'd be in the playoffs. I know it's shocking but we're actually still in the hunt.

I don't think that's fair. Lackey has 12 wins and I doubt anyone here thinks very highly of him. There's no arguing that aside from this last 2 week or so stretch' date=' he's been absolutely shutdown out of the bullpen.[/quote']

He went TWO MONTH without giving up a run. Maybe he was due for the two stingy month....

On a serious note, Bard has to be shut down. Rework his mechanics. This is the THIRD straight year he hit a wall in September. It's the workload and the pressure innings he had to pitch. The failure of Jenks/Wheeler bleed on onto Bard.

Let's go Lester for the win tomorrow!! Stop the bleeding.

I have tickets for next Saturday and Sunday against the Rays. Right now, I don't know whether or not to look forward to it.

Hey dude, we're counting on your attendance mojo, nobody elses' is working right now.

6-0 LA for what it's worth. The Yankees keep blowing their chances to gain ground on us.
That's very important, because they will be forced to go balls to the wall at least in their first series against the Rays. It would be ironic if we are rooting for the Yanks. It goes against every fiber of my being.

I don't care if they're playing against Al Queda on 9/11, I will never root for the Yankees.

No doubt... I'd be praying for a natural disaster to wipe both of them off the map

The Tigers are going to get #2 seed if we play like crap and barely scratch our way in' date=' if we're the WC we face them right?[/quote']

We will if they get the #2 and we get the WC

If the season ended now, that's how it would play out. Yanks v. Rangers and Sox v. Tiggers.
