How can you justify that they overpaid by a wide margin due to his stats and he hasn't even played a full season yet? He's here for 6 more years. The contract wasn't the best but we got a damn good player. Get real.

 

There's no way he was ever going to live up to that contract, they overpaid him just like they overpaid Lackey, but I don't care a whole lot as long as he contributes numbers like he had with the Rays during his best years.

Since 2006 he's been pretty close to that average .375/.850 clip.

 

This year overall he's been terrible, but he's shown signs of life, I don't think he's going to keep playing like this, I don't think anyone else thinks he will either really.

According to Fangraphs, Crawford was worth 30 million and 25 million in 2010 and 2009. You're completely ignoring every single thing that is positive about him out of sheer bias.

Team looks flat as s***. As flat as they've looked all season. Very 0-6, 2-10-esque. Going 2-5 in our last 7 against the Twins, Mariners, and Rays is pretty much the lowest it gets in the 2nd half. I think if he did what he did from 2006-2010, he could say he earned that contract, but we'll see how it turns out, he could definitely still do that, I agree.

 

Where Drew comes into this, rsr, is that you defend the Drew contract, yet if Crawford miantained his value from 2006-2010, he would definitely be earning his contract. This is one bad year, and I don't think any non-pessimist really expects him to continue to play like this. You'd be just like all the Drew haters to be honest.

This, he was worth around 20 million a year average from 06-10, as well.

 

IMO that's a substantial enough sample size to say he can get back to there.

The team is in a collective slump except for Ellsbury and Ortiz and Ortiz is out with an injury. It's a recipe for a losing streak. That's why stoppers like Lester and Beckett are so valuable. They give you a chance to win while the team is slumping.

Seriously, this team could go into free-fall if Ortiz is out for any length of time. Someone like Youkilis or AGon will need to step up big time to fill that void. Youk is pretty banged up. Their best bullpen guys, Pap and Bard, never throw a pitch unless the team is leading going into the 8th inning. That hurts. The rest of the bullpen is a bunch of trash--except for Aceves. And the only two consistent starters are Lester and Beckett. Pray that Bedard comes through.
