Why is there a cut off? His whole season is a disaster.

Because April was by far the worst month of his career. Since, he's been much better. When a guy never has a month in his career hitting much below .250, signs a mega deal and changes cities and proceeds to hit .177 for his first month it's disconcerting, sure. But, when he rebounds from that and plays the next 2.5 months to his career averages it should be noted that he hasn't completely s*** his pants. If you wanna hate the guy, by all means go ahead, but the guy has been doing what he's done his whole career since about May 1st.

I'll take a .436 SLG from Crawford. Nobody is going to argue that he's worth 20 mil. I hated the signing initially, but I think his defense is good and overall he's a pretty good player.

Hitting .285 since may 1st.

If you just want to show up his best splits, you are fooling yourself. He is a .251BA/.287 OBP player by 5 months played, unacceptable given the amount of his contract, period. No excuses please!

Lol I can't wait to see how people react when Crawford becomes Crawford. Cause you know a player this talented will play like this for the next 6 years. /sarcasm

Dude. Talent always dries up when players turn 29. :dunno:

Wonder of Dr. Stem Cells took some of Crawfords cells and put them in Colon's elbow.

Wait. Nope. That's just HGH in Colon's elbow. Not even sure if we can confirm any stem cells were implanted.

If he produces like he did from May 1st to now for the next 7 years it will be the worst contract ever

Who cares? We're lucky enough to root for the Red Sox. If they think the market for a player they're after is getting crazy and they want to sign him anyway, they will. They have the money to do it. It won't keep them from making other moves and it's not our money. If Carl hits ~.290 with a .325 OBP, starts stealing bags and shows the gap power he had in tampa, he'll be helping our offense. That's not even taking into consideration that theres a lot of people out there who consider him the best defensive LFer in baseball. He will never be worth the money, but he's not a bad player by any means.

Dude. Don't try to be rational. He's just trying to dump the "worst contract ever" status off of JD Drew.

Well, like I said, if you wanna hate him, go ahead. But I'm willing to look at his entire career and take into consideration that hitting .177 for a month has never even come remotely close to happening before. I think it was an aberration. Considering he has rebounded very nicely since then, I think he deserves credit. But since you apparently chipped in to pay for some of his contract, I can understand why you're upset about the money.

I'm not really an in-depth numbersy kinda guy, but I think the term "outlier" applies very well to his April. I'm not losing sleep over his season averages. I think he helps the Sox. I think we'll win at least one WS during his contract and I think he'll be helping us get there when it happens.

Amazing all this love affair with Crawford. The guy is getting paid big bucks to get hits and not strikeout!!!

Not as amazing as judging a player by 300 AB and neglecting to even take into consideration the 2,000 AB before that.

This team needs to get their heads out of their asses and start playing better baseball. It doesnt help when ur bottom of the rotation guys stink!!!!

You're giving most people too much credit. They jumped off a cliff after his first 90 AB's and were no longer with us when it got better.

Actually, he's not far off his career averages in terms of walks. His career OBP is .334 and career BA is .293. OBP is usually ~40 points higher than BA for him. Right now he's hitting .251 and his OBP is .287. Miserable season numbers, but the problem is not his approach. He's doing what he's always done, with one horrendous month of april weighing his season averages down. He will never have AB's like Pedroia, Youk, and A-gon. Never. Most of the people who had a problem with the signing cited his approach. He'll never be an OBP guy, but he should hit the ball at a .285+ clip. He's hitting .285 since May 1st.

He's not worth the money, but he's not doing that terribly. We're a better team with him.

I don't care about his approach AB, I'm just asking for his 2006,2007,2009 and 2010 OBP numbers, that's what matter. Those numbers are above .350. And he is so far to reach them. I want to believe that they paid him 142 MUSD given those numbers among other.

right but you know his BA goes into his OBP, right? The problem is not his walks and such, it is that for the first month he couldn't have hit a beach ball and since then hasn't quite hit the ball at the pace that he's used to but has begun to come around. When he does get back to hitting at a .300 clip you will see his OBP numbers get better. Until then, cover your eyes when Crawford bats and focus hard on Youk, he's basically all OBP right now.

It's called having faith in a player.

Theo has definetly overpaid for this guy so far.

Absolutely. BTW, are you Darnell McDonald? I'm pretty sure you are. I can appreciate a guy campaigning for his starting job on internet message boards. You're a really bad base runner.

I don't hate him, I don't even know him hehehe:D, I'm just pointing the fact that he has been terrible on his 1st season in Boston. There are a lot of stats that indicates that he should perform like those brilliant years at some point of his contract, but the only true and fact is that he hasn't been, not even close.
