Its pretty funny how there were 3 600 HR hitters in 95 years (Ruth,Mays,Aaron) yet 5 600 HR hitters in the last 9 years. (Bonds, Griffey, A Rod, Sosa and Thome)

The Press barely acknowledged this accomplishment while Jeter's pursuit of 3,000 hit was covered like a blanket. 8 guys have hit 600 HRs. 28 guys got 3,000 hits. The bigger accomplishment is clear.

If he played in a big market like NY or Boston people would be going crazy over it. Kind of a shame that's the way it is.

Pretty much what WB said. Plus Jeter is one of the most popular Yankees in history, not really surprised he got that much air time. They blew this up just like they blew up A-Rod hitting number 600.

600 HR is certainly the bigger accomplishment, but Jeter getting more press coverage should be no surprise.

 

Jeter has been the one of the most popular players in MLB of the last decade, and he's the first Yankees player to do it.

 

Not to mention since the steroid era, 600 HR's isn't nearly as highly regarded as it used to be, most casual baseball fan's wouldn't even be able to tell you number of HR's Bonds hit.
