Miller is uniquely unsuited for bullpen work. He gets into most of his trouble in the early innings of his starts, and his adjustment that was giving is hope of effectiveness this year involved taking even longer to warm up.

He's a starter or a bust. One of the two. Those are the choices.

I think we are seeing why the marlins gave up on him. I don't know why so many idiot fans think that our organization has some magical powers to turn around busts like this kid. Send him out. Get the soft tossing Millwood up here. At least he will not hurt himself by walking the ballpark.

Aceves is incredibly valuable where he is' date=' and Miller's numbers so far this year are better than Doubront's were when he was up. None of the options we have are definitely better than Miller.[/quote']

Doubrant has not been up this year, I believe. Its time to give him a shot at it. Miller is NOT the answer. That much is clear. There are alternatives.

Miller's velocity is noticeably down. He was sitting 93 on the Fenway gun' date=' he's 89-90 tonight. It seems to be causing him to nibble, which he doesn't nearly have the command for.[/quote']His velocity has been a huge disappointment. Where id the 95+ mph heater that was advertised?

It was a nice story for a while but he obviously still hasn't figured it out yet. Send him back down. God I want Matt Garza.

Guys, wake up. Garza is not happening. Swapping one young, inconsistent project of a pitcher for another is lateral move. We'll move Miller to the pen or the minors when Lester and Buchholz come back, and run with a rotation of Lester, Beckett, Buchholz, Lackey, Wakefield. Until then, we're stuck. Either Miller or someone equally reliable.

He was up in early April.

Here come Aceves.I think if he pitches well here, he might get the call to be our 5th starting pitcher until Clay gets back.

I hope not. Aceves is uniquely valuable where he is, especially with the rest of the rotation a mess.

Do you realize how rare a really dependable long man is? We can put up with one bad wheel in the rotation better than we can lose that really top notch cleanup guy.

The Marlins AND the Tigers. I don't think he can go down again. If they do that I believe he can become a FA. Thats the good news. Maybe the Yankmees will pick him up to replace El Guapo Colon.

The Tigers traded him for Miggy Cabrera, that doesn't remotely count as "giving up" on him. As for the Marlins, they're notorious for rushing their prospects.

What did Miller cost us? Someone answer that question. And tell me whether you would have really preferred Kyle Weiland to take this start. We're this far down on the depth chart, our starter options are going to look pretty craptacular. Comes with the territory.

I'll pick Miller up from the airport and drive him to the New Yankee Stadium.

You really want to see more of Miller?

I don't.

NWIH on Millwood. He's pure fool's gold, worse than Miller was in the minors. At least Miller still had his projectable stuff. Millwood doesn't even have that.

Doubront is a possibility, but I don't think he's that much better a bet to be consistent than Miller. You're going to get bad starts and short starts from young pitchers.

I can live with that. Stick him in there until Clay comes back and then make a move at the deadline. There's gotta be a pitcher out there that we can land to be an effective 5 man. Garza would be nice but expensive or judging by what I'm seeing from Fangraphs, Ryan Dempster wouldn't be too bad except for his 13.5 million salary this season and a 14 million player option for 2012. No Zambrano for the love of God though.

Not really. But I recognize that with 2 starters out, you're going to get into some unpleasant depth options. Miller is far from the worst replacement starter pitching right now.

and one thing I do know. One bad start shouldn't influence your decision about a player any more than one good start. I don't think Miller has really been that far off what you could have expected him to be, taking him as a whole. Kid's 3-2 and has pitched well at times, his baseline is 5 IP 3 ER and that's acceptable for a depth starter.

Anyone who honestly thinks that you're going to get ace caliber performances out of the 7th best starter on the depth chart is deluding themselves. We just saw the ugly side of it today, but as a whole, considering where he is on the depth chart, what we've seen from Miller is par for the course or better.
